It’s a truly astonishing achievement but I just wish there was something more than rocks and sand to photograph. Just one tiny microfossil…

I get that. But like, what if there never is? That wouldn't make it less valuable or important to study Mars. It *would* make the point that perhaps life only ever formed and was sustained on Earth (at least in this planetary system).

Given the size of the universe, I'm not sure that it means much to be the only inhabited planet out of eight (more or less).

Yes, still hugely valuable. (I went to a talk at Jodrell Bank a couple of years ago by one of the scientists who worked with Curiosity). It’s the twelve year old me still inside that still wants to see spiders…
