It will never not blow my mind that we can take pictures of the SURFACE OF ANOTHER PLANET and only a *few hours later* see them on our phones like this one, taken earlier today

This scene is a composite of two NASA Perseverance rover Right Mastcam-Z camera images taken at a local Jezero Crater time of 11:25 am on Wednesday, 14 May 2025. I adjusted light levels, contrast, and colour balance to better match human vision. Credit: NASA/JPL-Caltech/ASU/Paul Byrne

Alexander Graham Bell: "Mr. Watson—Come here—I want to see you". Watson: "S'up?" Bell: "Got myself a new phone, and look at this image - it's another fricking planet, by George!"

I'm amazed that we figured out the science, engineering, materials, and laws of nature to be able to respond to your post of a picture from space on our phones. We have achieved amazing things. If only we treated fellow humans with the same great power and respect as we do our gadgets.

I get that. But like, what if there never is? That wouldn't make it less valuable or important to study Mars. It *would* make the point that perhaps life only ever formed and was sustained on Earth (at least in this planetary system).
