This was on British tv all the time when I was a kid. I loved it, but some of the episodes were real nightmare fuel. On the other hand, the costume and set designs were fantastic. So, at least they looked good when they were terrifying me.

Still love this show, and it’s way past 1999. But Breakaway… How big would that explosion really have needed to be to shift the moon from orbit? It would be a Praxis level event.

That's why proposals for a remaster or reboot (the reboot to be titled Space: 2099) featured a space warp sending the Moon or a space station into hyperspace and sending it into interstellar space, opening portals to planets for adventures.

I'd go for that. My only proviso would be that they would need to keep the design of the Eagle transport craft pretty much the same. It's so iconic, messing with it would just ruin things.
