And NOBODY in the DoJ will suffer any sanctions or penalties. Least of all the minister. In years past having the courts reverse a Dept decision would have been a resigning matter.

I'm going to try to do this cleanly. Today's right wing governments are networked to each other. Those networks are well-documented. You can read about them in books. Following the elections in one node of that network is good practice for understanding the U.S. node.

I just think Matt's wrong about this. We're at a point in our technological development where a ton of problems spill over national borders--if Flavio Bolsonaro burns down the Amazon, that will flood houses in Miami.

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

At 64 years old I have done my FIRST service on a car! My venerable Volvo XC70. Oil, oil filter, air filter all done! Diesel, so no need to change spark plugs. I feel really grown up … #speirghorm #spéirghorm #speirgorm (how DO we spell that hashtag anyway??)

For all intensive purposes …

When are journalists going to react to statements like this by saying “are you for real? What a stupid thing to say. Are you so divorced from reality you think that is a sensible suggestion??”

Assistant Garda Commissioner Denis Ferry said "all pedestrians" including in urban areas should wear high visibility clothing. "I think you should do everything you can to ensure you're visible," he said. www.thejournal.ie/driving-phon...

We think we’re a democracy, but most of what we call parliamentary procedure is just “gentlemens’ agreements”. A majority gov can decide how much debate goes on, then vote ANYTHING through. Gov always has a majority in the Seanad (thanks to Dev) so that’s no problem.

The first Irish opinion poll on encryption is clear: - 93% say we have a right to private online conversations - 66% say government should not get power to access encrypted messages It comes as Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan plans new Garda interception powers - including for encrypted messages.

For many Irish people, our military is "out of sight" and they are not part of the culture like other countries. So things like this can easily slip through unnoticed. It is also argued that the United Nations is "broken" and "not fit for purpose" so we should not let it limit us. ->

On Wednesday, the Govnt will try to push through legislation to end the Triple Lock. Whatever you think about it, the way F/FG have systematically misinformed the Irish public about the reasons for doing this & the implications for our neutrality is fundamentally undemocratic.

So if the government wants to remove the UN aspect of the Triple Lock, what are they replacing it with? Because if it goes, the government of the day can vote to send our troops anywhere they want. "Approval of the Government and approval of the Dáil" are the same in our current system.

Yes, it's not perfect, but it provides one MAJOR function of the Triple Lock. There seems to be an idea that peacekeeping troops are “sent” into war zones. They are not. They are invited by states and factions, and have defined roles and responsibilities. ->

Before the UN calls for peacekeeper contributions, there has been diplomatic negotiations between warring factions, some form of ceasefire, some agreement on roles and aims, a calculation of budget and operational considerations. A full sense of “what we’re getting into”. ->

I was thinking: rather than measuring the success of a country with GDP or median wages we should be using number of homeless and number of food banks. I can’t believe in 2026 people have to resort to food banks and can’t afford a home. Everything else is irrelevant if we can’t get those two right.

R2D2 playing Leia’s “help me” recording to the infant Jesus could have set Christianity on a whole different trajectory. I want to see THAT movie!

Multi-billion Health service, with over 150,000 staff has pay errors of less than 1%, tis about a €50 overpayment - criminals!!! 10 TDs being overpaid up to €30,000, retired ministers on 6 figures refusing to pay back overpayments, all of whom are grossly overpaid anyway - clerical issue.

RTÉ News@news.rte.ie

The HSE overpaid its staff by more than €30 million in the space of three years with thousands of employees receiving money they were not entitled to.

You need to read this: I thought how can Amazon control pricing outside Amazon? Here’s how. Oh, and why hotel prices are so ludicrously expensive.

No matter where you shop, you're getting screwed by Amazon. Amazon has found a way to make everything you buy - at Target, at a mom-and-pop shop, even direct from the manufacturer - more expensive. And they're not the only one: Expedia's done the same thing, but for hotel rooms.

Perhaps @vonderleyen.ec.europa.eu might consider some appropriate action rather than being upset.

Your reminder that nothing should be described as “offensive”. To be offended, you must *choose* to be offended. If I call you a b*ll*cks, you can a) choose to be offended or b) choose to ignore it. Also, you can not be offended _on someone’s behalf_.

So @news.rte.ie or do you not read comments on here?

I wonder will any Irish media outlet have the guts to have Sally on live over the weekend to talk about her (to use their preferred term for once) "being cancelled" by her publisher, or is that privilege only extended to cranks and transphobes, rather those who oppose an ongoing genocide?

Legal aid solicitors were getting €60 per appearance, and Tough Talker Jim says this encourages adjournments Really? For €60? I can hear that newly minted solicitor “this is great! Only 1,683 appearances until I can buy that Porsche!! With, say, 4 weeks between adjournments that’s only 129 years!!”

It seems typical of modern Ireland; lots of “oversight” - Dublin Bus, NTA, Ombudsman - but no one actually responsible.

Dublin Inquirer@dublininquirer.com

Frustrated with the service from Dublin Bus, one man took them to the Small Claims Court. "Please note, I am only looking for the restitution of €2.75 – the fare cost."

Colleagues, family, friends on #strike. No blockades, not a single threat of violence. Unlike the crowd the government rushed to placate in April, and who still haven't claimed a lot of what was given. Because unlike unionised workers, lot of them are not tax compliant and don't play by the rules.

Ukrainian presidential advisor Serhiy Beskrestnov confirms Elon Musk's Space X crippled Ukrainian capabilities last night. In other words, the US deliberately sabotaged European defence operations mid-mission. Every country in the world should move away from buying American hardware ASAP.

I once stood at the bow of a ferry crossing the Irish Sea at night. All I could see was the bow wave fluorescing in a black expanse - no waves, no horizon, no stars. I then realised what “the long, dark sea-journey of the soul” meant.

I don’t sign online petitions, even though the cause may be worthy. It forever links my name to a cause electronically. And that list could easily end up in wrong hands, or used for unintended purposes (when gov or police want to identify “troublemakers” or bring pressure). #speirghorm

Russian bot traffic has dropped to nearly 0 after Ukraine struck a Yandex data center in Vladimir, Russia

Anonymous@youranoncentral.bsky.social

Ukrainian drones struck three Yandex data centres in Russia, shutting down two and crippling the third. The attacks disrupted more than 80 services, including banking, transport and cloud infrastructure, following Russian strikes on Ukrainian data centres.

The backstory: Ukrainian drones struck a Yandex supercomputer facility in Vladimir, taking it out. Suddenly, bot activity in US social media fell by 49%, confirming suspicions that this was the site of a massive Russian influence operation targeting US social media—mostly targeting MAGA.

To the surprise of absolutely fucking no-one, the MEPs in question are: Regina Doherty, Nina Carberry, Seán Kelly (FG) Barry Andrews, Barry Cowen, Billy Kelleher (FF) Ciaran Mullooly (II) I've said it before - no need for a far-right party in Ireland, as the establishment parties are already there.
