Weird show. Season One was a fun space action-adventure with fighter combat and "spy" stuff. Then in Season Two they decided, "Let's turn this into Star Trek, but make it way crappier..."

I read that gil gerard was instrumental in taking the second season in that odd Star Trek like direction. Apparently his ego/arrogance was part of the reason why the show ended up being such a mess. Aside from Hawk and his starship, I can't recall much about season 2. What a disappointment.

I can't speak to that because I don't know much about Gerard beyond his time on Buck Rogers, but doesn't surprise me. Maybe he wanted to be Captain Kirk, which is understandable. A pity he wasn't content to be Buck Rogers, who predated Kirk by a lot.

All it would have taken was us explaining the cultural importance of Buck Rogers within the genre to him over a drink before filming began; he would have understood, and there would be seven seasons. ๐Ÿ˜Ž Ok. Who has a time machine?

Agreed. Personally I feel had the series not gone the direction of Star Trek space exploration I suspect he could've gone a couple of seasons more. A while back i bought a well done remastered boxset of the entire series, watching season one is a nostalgia trigger to me. 1979 all over again.

"Producer/Studio Guy" Hey guys, Buck Rogers is really cool, but I'm gonna need you cheap way, way out next season. No fighter combat. Maybe make it like Star Trek?
