Itโ€™s only just dawned on me, but Biowareโ€™s impact on the culture I cover is so significant that I happened to post an advertisement for Knights of the Old Republic (2003) just hours before the studio closed.

Knights of the Old Republic (Bioware/LucasArts, 2003)

KotOR was incredible, and itโ€™s not for nothing that it often tops lists of the best Star Wars games. ๐Ÿ˜Ž The first time I experienced it, I watched my brother play it on the Xbox. The big reveal was brilliant. The reimagining of the Star Wars universe was brilliant. The Ebon Hawk was brilliant.

When my bro received Mass Effect for Christmas, the game had completely flown under my radar. The prologue and the lore-filled codex motivated me to buy a 360. Mass Effect remains my personal favoriteโ€”flaws and allโ€”for the sense of horror and impending apocalypse it evokes within a sci-fi mystery.

Dammit! That's the saddest "coming soon" I've seen. ๐Ÿซ  The next hero ship looked good! What if the Normandy was sleekier?

Mass Effect was my ultimate white whale, my all-time dream project. For the last couple years I'd been in discussion w/ BioWare & EA to take on the project & as part of that I wrote close to 20 minutes of music to explore where the franchise can go next, may as well share it!

Austin Wintory (Flow, Journey, The Banner Saga): "For the past several years, I'd been in dialogue with people both at BioWare and EA to potentially jump into Mass Effect 5. As part of those conversations, I decided to surprise the team by writing/recording a gigantic love letter to the franchise."

It was clear, but I can already see headlines that get everything mixed up. ๐Ÿคญ

To be *EXTRA* clear, I was NOT hired. No one was. I'd had conversations w/ both EA and BioWare over multiple years and prepared this music as a discussion item. The response was extremely enthusiastic from all who heard it but MUCH still needed to happen before it was official
