Periodic reminder that Chrome is bad software. It's a personal data collector cosplaying as a web browser. Use other browsers, my personal recommendations are Safari (if you're on a Mac) and Vivaldi (works anywhere). Orion is worth a look too (no Windows version yet).

I appreciate the replies. I recommended specifically Safari and Vivaldi because for most people they provide the best & least compromised browsers. A lot of people recommend LibreWolf, a great choice if you don’t need cross-device syncing of passwords etc. (have to use extra software for that).

One thing I like about Safari is that it has very good privacy-preserving ad-blocking available (uBlock Origin Lite); it’s also deeply integrated into macOS and syncs passwords etc reliably and securely. Vivaldi works really well cross-platform if you live in multiple operating systems.

There’s also more niche browsers that could work better for your needs then a generic browser. Two examples that come to mind: Zen browser (opinionated on project-based browsing) and Tor (very privacy focused). Maybe set aside an hour or two and try some of them.
