Being a lawyer is not a necessary credential for press secretary. Lying about being a lawyer, or lying in general, seems like a bad history for a press secretary (except if you boss requires you to vomit up blatant lies with a straight face.)

All of Trump's press secretaries lied. Trump lies constantly and a lot of Republican Senators and Congressmen back him up and approve his bizarre nominees to the cabinet. If Trump were working for Putin, his behavior would make complete sense, as he drives America into the ditch.

A former shirttail relative (my son's ex-wife's sister) is a licensed attorney who is fluent in Mandarin. She had been practicing law in Seattle for years and already spoke Mandarin *before* practicing law in Shanghai for ca. 7 years, where her husband and sons also became Mandarin speakers.

So she cant read English, doesn't have and lied about having an American law degree, was working for china, and a quick search shows shes racist, misogynistic, homophobic and an idiot! Can someone explain to me how she was hired to speak to the whole nation?

I had a friend whose son was interested in mastering Mandarin. In his teens, he worked in a Chinese restaurant. In 1 1/2 yrs, he was fluent. When he graduated high school, Chinese firms were headhunting him b/c he was bilingual, an asset. Zachbot can hardly read English. She was probably a token.

I expect she was working English language clients of the firm doing business in China. Foreign law probably not involved. She would have been too junior at the time to be providing opinions on US law to Chinese clients. Might have been working with more sr foreign (US?) lawyer.

It is particularly annoying when someone who is not a lawyer claims to be. Then when they make up stories which claims to support their lie, it's even worse. They should hammer her about this if she ever says it again. I volunteer to question her about it.

Whoo boy, didn’t think we could sink lower than the lady wearin’ a cross lyin’ like a cheap rug, yet here we are.

Shamelessly claiming to have something you do not possess is a prerequisite to serve in the Trump circles. She passed with flying colors. And she looks like Ivanka. Her presentation skills leave a little room for improvement.

In a "best case" scenario (using the word best loosely), is it possible that she was basically a uber low level paralegal (at best)? Don't know the circumstances of why she moved to China in the first place, but it might be a clue as well.

I can’t speak to Chinese law firms, but in Japan, domestic law firms routinely hire U.S. law school grads who are not (either yet or ever) admitted to any U.S. bar to “edit” the English used in communications to clients & translations; these are “Legal Editors”

Yeah this is probably the best way to explain it. She got a job equivalent to that a law-school grad could get even in the US without passing the bar. So still totally disingenuous answer. Cc @joshtpm.bsky.social

I completely agree. Sometimes—but not always—if a “Legal Editor” becomes admitted, they might be “promoted” to “foreign attorney”. Legal Editors are not lawyers.
