The thing about ripping out bike lanes is it doesn't stop us from biking, it just makes it more dangerous. And if I feel unsafe, I take the lane.

Every cyclist should take the lane. Motor vehicles should give around 1.5 metres clearance (5ft) to cyclists. Overtaking on most roads, this takes up too much of the opposite lane to share with oncoming vehicles, so they must wait until the oncoming lane is free, and when it is, they can use it all.

Especially if you only remove a smallish segment. I have a 3 mile commute. If the whole thing was on uncomfortable streets I might change. If it’s just the last 4 blocks you’re just gonna be stuck behind me

We know safe bike lanes bring out new riders; it stands to reason most of them will quit if the lane goes away. It doesn't sit right with me to write them off just to make the point that car-brained drivers are shooting themselves in the foot.

I live in NW Brampton, lots of new housing builds going in. Pretty much zero bike infrastructure being included. Micro mobility is the future, but we have to worry about short term builders profits, not long term livability. Future generations will hate us.

Unfortunately I agree. I've been riding and commuting over 30yrs. Bike lines, while I appreciate them, are at the margins for me. For a lot of other people though and children especially they are the key enabler.

Yep, it’s time for a whole lot more taking of lanes. Remind drivers that bicycles are traffic too! The law says so! My state law also says that you must keep to the right side of the “traffic lane“ and points out that this does not include the gutter-pan or the shoulder!

And do the math: the law says you are allowed up to 3 feet at the right edge, and the law says the car must stay 3’ away from you, so there’s 6’ out of a 10-12’ lane. Hence, it is never actually safe or legal for a car to pass you in the same lane, under law!

You haven't met the premier of Ontario - a man who's sole purpose in life is to punish the city of Toronto for being mean to his late brother (and himself by extension) when they were on city council (the late, un-lamented brother was mayor).

Many car drivers believe their registration fees pay for the road and bikes are freeloaders. They do not understand that the registration fee is mostly symbolic, and our taxes pay for roads. And bicyclists pay taxes too.

Is someone who enjoys bicycling? I never do it in the city because they do the bike lanes on the big main street yuck. Who wants to breathe all that. Bike lane should be on side street not on big Main streets. And it doesn’t matter if there’s bike lanes or lot or not bike riders do what they want

So I’m on a social media platform and I have an opinion that I would rather bike ride down a side street then a Main Street and I’ve got two guys that are all in an uproar about it and find it necessary to insult me. No clearly and you’ve never been to Portland so you’ve never seen here. Duh

Not in Southern California. Bikes are not quite as big as pickup trucks. Too risky for me. I try to avoid busy streets as much as possible. Of course, I'm retired so I don't have to ride to work.

Direct democracy is going to involve the same zeal and opprobrium we’ve used against America alcohol and American products but this time with it directed at queen’s park, ford and the roads. The right lane downtown for any ripped out lane should be filled with cyclists taking the lane

Snarl traffic and be joyful in doing so. Eventually target all kon bike lane roads and take them over in shifts thrpigu the day espeically during peak periods. Go further and fill the right lane with cyclists for the entirety of ford’s drive to queen’s park and back that’s non Gardiner/dvp m
