Temperate conifer forests aren't known for high stand-level (alpha) diversity. Landscape-level (beta) diversity can be impressive. On a 6-mile ramble covering 2000', ridges and valleys in the (geologically) old Oregon Cascades, I counted 12 tree species (record is 14). Spp in alt text #PNW #forest 🌍
