Wickham seems to have some hot goss (or at least some prickly opinions) about Darcy, which makes Elizabeth’s ears perk up, and I think we’re supposed to be unsure whether it’s because she’s interested in Wickham himself or if she’s very interested to hear about Darcy! Jane Austen is so good at this.
Elizabeth has decided that “patience with Darcy was injury to Wickham,” and is therefore resolved to be cold to Darcy. Who among us has not been kind of a bitch to an acquaintance because we were holding someone else’s grudge? Oh my god. This girl is all of us.
