if you’re feeling depressed about the AI changes announced by Google yesterday, let me bring some comfort: some of us are still trying to build AI-free products, and as long as there’s people willing to take the fight, there’s hope 🔥 No opt-in, no opt-out, no nonsense. NO AI.

there's always a first, but we've been building browsers since the 90s! Much of our team was originally working at Opera and followed our CEO when he left due to disagreements with the board regarding the direction of the company ☺️

I want to say thank you while logged into Vivaldi currently, I ended up removing Chrome last week and it takes some getting used to but I'm getting the hang of it.

What I don't get is how there's a huge opportunity for smaller businesses and startups to make something better people want, but except for a few companies like Vivaldi, everyone is just aping after Google or Meta in their death marches. Group think is ruining the tech industry.

the thing is, you need to be an independent company to be able to make moves like this, because otherwise stakeholders will push for the company to move towards whatever's trendy atm

I sure am. Every time I see a real artist being accused of generating pieces that they worked on for hours, every time whatever is depicted endangers the safety net for live animals by making people believe they’re more domesticated than they are, every time it’s used for deepfake porn, etc.
