Design system people: What unit are you using for letter-spacing? Looks like DTCG format doesn't support the em unit. Are we just using px? Is there some workaround to use em? #designsystems #tokens

We'll quickly regret defunding and losing those who read the specs, learn, explore, measure, weigh, and share their hard-won experience. When the answer to every question is "I asked Claude and clicked approve" we yield actual answers to probabilities and will always be left asking, "Are you sure?"

And before anyone comes at me with “but calling it fascist tho?”. Read up on the DHH of '26. He wrote on his blog: “When wolves get out of control, you shoot them. When gypsies take over public spaces, you deport them. This isn't hard, it isn't cruel. It's the basic logic of self-preservation.”

The Spotify desktop app is killing me lately. The jank from the slow loading hero section coming in and shifting the entire UI consistently causes me to click stuff I don't mean to. Yet another reason to get away from it. What music apps/streaming do people like these days?

Have you ever been stuck in a cycle where you're trying to do to much and you're getting nothing accomplished? Hi, I'm Mike. Welcome to my life lately!

“It’s not a failure when someone doesn’t take your advice”. Lots to reflect from Joe’s talk. I’ve explored the “talking about risk” from the dev perspective but talking about fear and frustration is more complicated as that’s also part of company culture. #SmashingConf

I wish there was a way to unfollow a whole-ass starter pack... Wait. Is there? Does anybody know how to unfollow a whole starter pack? I'll be your best friend!

Ford has rehired hundreds of senior engineers after replacing them with AI backfired and has cost the company billions of dollars. AI adoption is blamed for Ford being the most recalled automaker in the U.S. with 51 recalls covering over 11 million vehicles in the first half of 2026 alone.

Sucks that every tech podcast has turned their focus almost solely on AI. Drop me a recommendation for something tech and/or web dev/design focused that doesn't care about AI.

The energy here lately is truly energizing, as bleak as it feels sometimes. Some actions I've taken in the past week: 1. Bought a course made by real humans. 2. Downloaded a more private browser 3. Signed up for more private, secure email. Remember that small actions add up!

Really feeling the #enshitification of the internet these past few days. The #AI bots should be the ones jumping through hoops, not humans. If I have to "identify the pictures of bikes" every time I want to order tacos, I'll just go back to speaking to other humans.

repost if you think that designers and devs forming an integrated partnership ends up resulting in a better product than the typical “hand it off to the devs” approach

This article by @anneapplebaum.bsky.social may be the most important news piece you read this week.

Trump does not think strategically, historically, geographically, or even rationally. He does not connect actions he takes on one day to events that occur weeks later. Allied leaders know that if they help him in the Gulf, he won't be grateful, or even remember www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

This polarizing post led to many interesting takes. The whole thread is worth a read.

I have always been the kind of developer who only cared about outcomes. Give me the tool, the framework, the head start. I just want my website. A totally different kind of developer exists who cares about the *craft*. Getting that function just right. Those devs are in pain right now.

Lately, each update to @microsoft.com Edge seems to break something in Linux. A previous update broke the ability to inherit OS theme (dark/light mode.) the latest seems to have a bug in the theme emulation in dev tools.

Today I learned that you can curate your own lists of people on Blue Sky. This is great because I've been missing all my faves on the wash of bullshit going on in America. Now, I have a less active feed that I love right next to the chaotic nightmarish feed that I need. 10/10 highly recommend.
