From the article: “Columbus Day, we’re back, Italians,” Trump said last October. “Okay? We love the Italians.” And my comment!: His pandering is an insult. Italy is also…the home of Da Vinci and Michelangelo and so many scientists, artists, and actual fine traditions. Get lost, Trump.

I don't give a shit what the filthy, traitorous old kiddie diddler did for a centuries dead mass murderer. Perhaps the Bezos Post would be better off focusing on reporting about what DonOld Drumpf just did for Vladimir Putin with his sanctions relief order. That's the much bigger story. 🫤

Americans ask: "What can you do about the rising cost of living?" The government responds "We are doing a better job of honoring Christopher Columbus than anybody, also, we are going to shoot a guy on live TV"

Renaming Columbus Day back is LITERALLY the only “successful” accomplishment he thinks his 47 administration had in office. Wonder why he started renaming everything else, from Lake America to the Gulf of America to the Department of War? Yyyyyep. That’s why. And why it got its own statue.

The irony of Italo-Americans supporting an anti-immigration politician. Newsflash: if your last name ends a vowel, you most likely had a relative come here without prior authorization who then sent remittances home.

"I want to honor an explorer who died 500 years ago" is clearly a winning electoral message. "Well, I'm paying through the nose for groceries and gas but Trump put up an ugly Columbus statue so I'm votin' GOP!" doesn't sound like a statement anyone will make.

Tobacco, sugar (rum), coffee, tea, spices — this was the original drug economy and drove development of the Western Hemisphere. Columbus started a drug commodity boom that lasted for centuries, made Europeans and colonizers unimaginably wealthy, and launched the transatlantic slave trade.

For Indigenous Peoples Day, here’s a talk I gave explaining how Columbus was basically the original trans-Atlantic drug trafficker. You will be never think about the colonization of this hemisphere in the same way again. The “drug” economy powered hemispheric growth (and enslavement) for centuries:

I have never read a piece from legacy media that points out just how stupid Trump thinks people are. He might actually hate his voters more than me. He thinks you can buy people's votes with a literal check, or that Italian Americans will think, "All that other stuff, who cares? Columbus statue!"

Any device Trump can use to drive wedges between Americans will be used. Trump has never pretended to represent all Americans. He even invited Iran to attack Californian cities. Somehow, even after this, the demented geriatric, Putin & pedophile supporting Trump has not been removed from office.

How about we make Columbus Day a voting day instead? You know, a national holiday so everyone can go vote. Certainly that's more important than honoring a guy who was lost. He thought he had reached Asia, but instead ended up in the Americas.
