The mobilization itself was already not something I ever expected to see, but to actually win? Hell, to double the winning margin from the 2022 runoff? Genuinely surreal. Maybe child raping billionaires *don't* have to run the world with a shit-eating grin. Maybe that can stop.

This is a point that I always want to really hammer home when it comes to environmental matters It’s not about being overly-optimistic, it’s about understanding that there’s machinery at play that wants you to believe that we’re cooked and done, that’s betting on people letting go and giving up

RADINSKY 🏳️‍⚧️🪬@thisisradinsky.bsky.social

It’s really important to note that there is a lot of effort put into making you believe that the battle for the environment has been lost and that there’s nothing more we can do, so you can only sit idly by and watch It’s completely false, there are so many things we can still save

Vivek Ramaswamy has been a horrible person in public for so long that until a friend reminded me, I totally forgot that I wrote a letter to the editor blasting his opposition to a living wage for campus workers more than *two decades ago*

Parents, please check your kids’ candy this Halloween. I’ve just found an ancient metal whistle with the inscription “QUIS EST ISTE QUI VENIT" inside a Snickers bar. I blew it and heard a note of infinite distance, and now I’m haunted by a figure in pale, fluttering draperies. Be safe.

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

Thread: rights grabs at Must Read Magazines

John Picacio@johnpicacio.bsky.social

🧵 Attention, Fellow SFF Artists and Authors -- here is my response to Must Read Magazines, after they presented an Asimov's art contract expecting me to waive all Moral Rights and Copyright to my art. And, I would strongly advise the following to my fellow pros…. 1/

🌱 🌱 A fox actually got into the chicky house yesterday and got Swiss Miss’s tail feathers but must have been scared off before she could swipe my girls. A narrow escape! Everyone is ok but the chickys have been very quiet ever since.

This is your occasional reminder that generative "AI" in particular could have been developed on public domain materials and/or licensed and compensated works but the major players intentionally, methodically and systemically chose to steal labor from working creative folks instead

In my job interviews I always insist on my gentlemen interviewers wearing pantyhose whilst I smoke three cigarettes at the same time and chug my tureen of un-iced coffee ☕️ I am a maverick, doncha know

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

Is asking someone to leave the beverages at home for an interview as fussy as reminding a lady to wear pantyhose or a gentleman to ask before lighting a cigarette? We assembled a team of Post staffers across the newsroom — and commenters — to find out: https://wapo.st/4dwx0LS

🌱🌱 I'm making book covers again because I have FINALLY started writing a new series about growing dwarf fruit trees. We'll start with a general overview, then books for growing dwarf apples, pears, peaches, cherries, plums. Also a book about grafting! Preorder links to come (hopefully soon).

Today in “Adventures in ADHD” we have the amazing never-ending scrolling list of 50 million things I need to do, which is constantly in flux because I haven’t written any of them down, and every item on the list is of equal or greater importance than every item on the list So that is fun

🌱🌱 The old white peach trees have a severe case of gummosis, so much that it has glommed onto the ground. But this won’t affect the branches I plan to cut this winter that I’m going to graft onto my existing peach tree.

I've always liked the part of the web where people build things for themselves. A blog about a very specific hobby, a small site someone just wanted to exist. They're everywhere. They've just become surprisingly hard to stumble across. That's why I made this field. #indieweb #smallweb

🌱 🌱 A graft on my apple tree wrapped up - then unwrapped. That alarming-looking stuff on the second pic is fine; it is where the cambium has healed together. I think the apple variety on this graft is Palmer Greening.

Stop looking at my psyche dammit
