Can someone help us get this message to Andy Burnham? Labour voters want public ownership, not public control - it is time to deliver it

Give the guy a chance. We all know Thatcherism was a catastrophe but undoing it is not the work of an afternoon. It’s a mammoth task and actually the biggest enabler to reversing it, is making sure that the Tories and Reform become completely unelectable. That will speed everything up.

Why vote Labour when they have consistently proven they won't do this? They know people want public ownership and they've all always known privatisation is a scam. Burnham was in the Blair government that doubled down on this shit.

somehow unless Andy gets rid of half his Cabinet plus advisers he wont change very much. Also he needs to ban LFI or genocide ASP.lift the ban Palestine action now.

If you buy them back quite a lot. In the case of water they've broken the law so badly you could just take it back, the rest would require an act of parliament, for which you would need a majority, but Labour have that. They will lose those lobbyist bribes though.

Yes, Mr Burnham is a Labour MP & the leader of the Labour Party, but he is also Prime Minister of a country as a whole, leading a government elected on a particular manifesto.

The message also needs to contain three things: 1. It’s more efficient because money doesn’t go out to shareholders 2. It can be run effectively with the same people just different objectives. 3. Private capital is more expensive than government bonds.

You forgot: 1. Profit motive incentivises efficiency savings, without this there’s a tendency for bureaucratic empire building 2. State owned industries have a poor record of investment as govs cut money to put into politically popular day to day spending Pros and cons…

Profit motives drive the wrong behaviours and there is precisely zero reason why they should be more bureaucratic that any other large organisation. State owned industries were run poorly in the past, today the people running them understand efficiency way better. Different times altogether.

I must say as a Scandinavian, who on earth thought privatising water was a good idea for the national interest? This is just a decision based on ideology at best, at worst it is corruption. The Conservatives, the party of sound money? I never want to hear that again.

Absolutely. This gov't is proud to work as hard as possible for billionaires/mega companies, but are selectively deaf to the sounds of the public screaming for change. As long as Lab get ££ from donors - any donors, they really aren't fussy, they will carry on doing the same.

It's not that, because this is now the direction of policy, in case you don't read the news. It's the economic implications and the completion for scarce resources in a period of war. I know you don't care about or understand this, but this is the real answer. Government is harder than you think.

The LibDems used the same excuse after warning everyone that David Cameron was planning a VAT hike (that he denied). A few weeks later Nick Clegg actually enabled Dave to do that, along with the rest of austerity (that LibDems had previously said would be a bad decision).

Ok but now poll this when you include where the money is coming from…🫩

This dogmatic approach is as useful as Brexit. Diverting parliamenttime, scarce funding & mind space when there are issues threatening our very existence. Tory dogma was totally wrong. That doesn’t make the opposite dogma right. Can we not take an adult approach to running our infrastructure?

Yeah keep paying them and their dividends while they screw the service up more and more 🤦‍♂️... It doesn't work weve seen it in action. Scarce funding 😅😅. Collect taxes properly.. Funding issue resolved... Massively.

Evidence of badly specified and poorly managed contractual terms and conditions. Largely because Tory politicians were desperate for a result. But also in part to a lack of civil service experience and commercial nous. Not proof that the private sector can’t deliver. Just look at the supermarkets

Supermarkets don’t grow any of the food they supply, yet somehow achieve low prices and remarkably consistent quality. They do the things they are good at and subcontract everything else.
