This is mango. She was owned by a guy who kept her outside and used her to hunt squirrels. My daughter adopted her but she was not suited for apartment life. It has taken her 5 years to realize I do not hunt squirrels.

We always always had dogs. My first love was a mutt named Louie. Dogs weren’t leashed at this time and he used to take himself to the butcher shop. Even after he went blind he’d make it up there. What a swell guy. The butcher was cool too. My current dog is Beau. Love him like he loves us. ❤️

Much like you, I've always had dogs in my life. As an adult, I started fostering and, there have many foster failures in my life. When I moved to NM, I noticed that the community I was in is a mix of they're family & it's just a dog. I have rescued multiple dogs & spoiled them rotten in the 26yrs

In short. They are awesome! They are adorable! They are silly! They are fun! They love, they care. They are there for me in both best and worse times of my life. I only grow to love them more. I'm never loved anything more than dogs

I'm a dog person because dogs are what most people aren't. They... Love unconditionally. Are always happy to see you. Are fiercely loyal. Never stop wanting to have fun. Bring joy when they're around. Are good judges of character. Will cheer you up if you need it. Will never tell your secrets. ❤️🐶

Love WeRateDogs. First thing I open from my in-box. Great way to start the day with a smile. Oh, I share them with my dog, Dash - he loves other dogs. I have the 'tell your dog i said hi' sticker in the back window of my car - everybody needs a smile!

My mother had severe asthma when I was growing up, so no pets. In 2003 her dear friend told her to get a Yorkie. For 20 years she and I had 4 Yorkies and 2 Silky Terriers. The joy, love, fun, laughter, and companionship in a life with #dogs are immeasurable. Dogs taught us how to be present.

My parents took in an abused stray dog, Max, when I was young. He was a mixed terrier wirh the saddest brown eyes and shaggy head. We had 16 years with Max and he stole my heart even though he never accepted affection easily. A pat on the head or back was as much as he accepted due to his 1/

traumatic past. His Owners had cruelly left him behind when they moved away and he had been knocked down then badly mistreated by some young men. Yet despite his reluctance to accept affection he bravely provided constant companionship. I had to arrange to send him over the Rainbow Bridge when 2/

his body and age betrayed him. It broke my heart so much so that I decided I would never get another dog. Fast forward 19 years later to November 2019, when there was no mention of Covid, and for some inexplicable reason I started thinking about getting a doc. Luckily I convinced myself it was 3/

a good idea and I would up with Buster. I've had him since he was a puppy (still is!). Like all dogs Buster gives unconditional love and no judgement or betrayal will ever come from him. He falls asleep cradled in my arms and having him makes each day easier to get through. During Covid lockdowns 4/

Wasn't allowed a dog as a kid. bought a house in "95 Neighbors knew I wanted a dog, & they knew about some MinPin puppies I couldn't separate the two boys so I jumped head first into the whole dog thing 2 10 week old puppies. Longest time without a dog since then 6 months & almost broke me

I can’t remember not being a dog person but it intensified when we rescued Ivan The Snuggable. His joy and affection has redefined unconditional love and he is very simply my heart.

Sevenish years ago, my daughter got a Lab puppy with an outsized personality. Today, he’s a 95-pound love doofus. He greets me by body slamming & has taken me down a few times. He inspired me to adopt a beast of my own, but smaller.

I don't remember what made me a dog person. The first dog I remember was a greyhound named Doxie, then a dachshund named Chori (which I found out decades later was short for Chorizo), then others. I had a little pocket sized book of dog breeds as a young child. Now I have my greatest love, Tova.

I was scared to death of dogs as a little girl. Then my mom's coworker got a Maltese puppy when I was about 12. I spent some time with my mom at her job over the summers and I got to know Anastasia and my heart opened up.

We had dogs all throughout my early childhood but it was when I was 7 and moved to a new place My parents went out for Pizza and they noticed a Doberman, maybe 6 mos. old, guarding a baby carriage. When my folks return to the car she just jumped in behind them obviously starved. When they came home

We couldn't believe it and showered her in kisses and pizza. Sadie became my best friend for 13 years I loved her more than anything, losing her was my I first foray into the death of someone so close. And it hurt bad. But I learned that there's nothing like the love of a dog. No comparison.

This is my bestest girl, Penny Lane. Loves me, my husband and kids unconditionally. Always greets us in the mornings like she won the lottery. Little does she know, we’re the lucky ones.

My heart dog Sam. I walked through many shelters. And I stopped at his enclosure and said “there you are” out loud. We were together for 11 years. I lost a part of me when he died. But realized that part was left for other doggos.

I never had a dog until I was in my 50s. Marley was 11 when we got him from a shelter. He had issues but we loved him until he passed at age 15. Now we have Georgia, another rescue. Her whole world revolves around me. Dogs are unconditional love.

I just love dogs. They have comforted me through the darkest times. All have been rescues, except the wolf hybrid my autistic son requested. Hunter was my soul animal as I spent a year of my life training him. If I was present, he only wanted me. He was trained to calm my son during meltdowns.

We always had dogs growing up. But when I was a young teen growing up and away from conforming in that authoritarian household, our big Airedale girl started growling at my dad when he physically threatened me. Dogs know when things are wrong. That is one of the many reasons why I’m a dog person.

Honestly? It’s you. You gave voice to the sheer goodness and humanity of dogs. There’s been a lot of dark this past decade and your voice has been an incredible light. Love my two best pups, Luna and Zeke. But you made me a dog person.

When I was 4 my parents got a cocker spaniel puppy. I did not understand the difference from a puppy and a stuffed animal, and my mother was too busy with my brother. I did not treat her well. I grew up with her hating me and I hated her back. I thought I was a cat person.

My ex adopted a dog, and she was lovely. I've since had many dogs, both fosters and to keep. Currently I have the best dog in the world. The best thing my ex did for me was adopt that first dog.

When I was 8 we went to cut a Xmas tree in the mountains. Dad said “stay with Mom, watch your brother”. He tromped off in 2 ft of snow. Mom found a picnic spot with some deadfall trees we could sit on. Bro & I made a snowman. 1/x

Little bro always had trouble stopping to go to the bathroom, put on sunscreen, get out of the pool, get warm when he got to cold, etc., when he was having fun. I made him go back to Mom when I noticed how bad he was shivering. 2/x

Mom tells our Bassett Hound, Wrinkles, “go find Cleve” (Dad). Dog bounds off. He was well trained. 2 ft of snow means Wrinkles has to jump up & forward, repeat. Like a fox in winter. Tells me, “follow the dog, tell your father we need the keys” 4/x

I had allergies as a kid, no dogs. A few years ago, a support animal was recommended for my daughter. Turns out this pup doesn't bother me much so we brought her home. Got my first dog at 55 yrs old and she has been an absolute treasure. I couldn't love her more!

This guy made me a dog person. Smart, beautiful, stubborn, strong and gentle. His name was Dexter, we lived together for over 14 years and I will love him until I meet him again when I cross the rainbow bridge.

My dog person journey began when my father went to a bachelor party. The host had a litter of airdale/lab puppies. They all found a home that night. He surprised us in the morning. There's only been a handful of years in my 67 years on this earth without a dog or two by my side

Unsolicited praise: Thank YOU for doing what you do. All the long-time canine and feline companions that kept me company for so many years have all passed away.🌈🐈‍⬛🌈🐕💔💔💔💔💔💔💔 Your real world endeavors and online posts help so many animals, including the one's of the human variety like me.👏🙏🥹🙌👍

I honestly became a dog person when I saw my pitbull Gigi take care of her puppies. I was like 9 at the time I think. And I'd always had dogs in my life, but that was when I really became one. I may not have a dog right now(3 cats and 2 turtles) but I'll always love them.

Aww, this is the story of my life, too. I'm glad you found Winston! Being able to finally cuddle a dog was such a big moment for me -- it just changes something inside you deep down, doesn't it? (Here's our little guy)

I found my old pup as I was biking and she was frightened and walking on a busy street. I luckily had a slip lead, so I got her out of the street and walked her home. She was Dog for two days, but after no collar, no chip, and a vet checkup + vaccines, she became Bailey. She was gentle and sweet 🩵

I grew up with a family dog and always loved any dog I came across. But in my 20s, my dad and I started volunteering for a nonprofit organization that raised and trained support and therapy dogs. The things I saw and heard struck me in the heart and taught me the most important lesson of my life.

For example, a young woman in a wheelchair who always felt unaccepted and awkward. After being paired with her companion dog, she realized she was loved, 24x7, by the most beautiful creature in the world. Didn’t matter how she looked. Or what she could accomplish that day. Her partner loved her.

Or a young head trauma patient who wouldn’t interact with anyone, no matter what they tried. After months of trying, they brought in a therapy dog. The young patient - for the first time since their head injury - reached out voluntarily to touch the dog. Things got better from there.

My mom was a dog person, she groomed dogs! One of her grooms on a Springer named DJ won Westminster. She worked at show kennels when I was a kid. Mom brought home dogs for welping, I could birth, clean, and start the breath of some pups since I was 8 years old. Dogs are a part of my whole life

I vaguely remember one of early tweets with you meeting & tweeting about dogs you met in your area. And it was about you, a teenager at that time and I was so impressed with the kindness and thoughtfulness. It's fantastic to see you growing up and becoming exactly the person I wished for you to be.

Born a dog person. Dad’s Llewelyn was my first companion. Always had them, always girls. But my first soul dog was my golden boy Henry. He got me through so much. The golden bug bit and we’ve had them ever since. Added a black lab, too! 🐾

what made me a dog person? always wanted one as a kid, but mom said nope. she liked cats so we had cats. i got cats as an adult, then realized as an adult… I COULD GET MY OWN DOGS!!! so i graduated to dogs and haven’t looked back. (tho i do need to look under my shoes after playing in the park)

This gal, Cassie, made me a dog person. We took her in when she was 4. When I met her, she sat right on my foot and I was hooked! One of the hardest days of my life was having to say goodbye to her when she was too sick to keep going. That was 5 years ago, now we have the goober on the right!

We fostered all animals for a while. Then we got Larry. He was supposed to be a foster too but after a short while the shelter told us that Larry has hip dysplasia that would have to be put down. Even tho he is only 2-3 and has no symptoms. We couldn't let them do that so we had to adopt him.

"Best Doggo" is definitely a matter of proximity. Both, figuratively and literally. Yup. I meet a dog at the dog park and momentarily my best doggo gets bumped off. I can be like that. but I always go home.

My parent’s first dog came to all of us the fall after college graduation. He was smart, oh good golly, he was smart. He loved each of the family members for who we were. Dad. Mom. Me. Sister. Brother. Similar to the grinch, my heart grew 3 sizes. My heart broke when he died, but his love endures.🐶

From age 2 to age 55, dogs have always been a part of me. One special pup isn't pictured bc of divorce and lost pics. Misty 🌈 Jon Pierre 🌈 Sabi 🌈 plus Skippy & Sophie both with me now -- all in my heart.

I’ve always been an animal person, doggos included. But these two made me a ride-or-🎲 dog person and i’ll never be able to thank them enough.

Same story. Grew up with dogs; began to write about them, esp those needing rescue. Hubby and I over 44 yrs had dozens of rescues. Now pushing our 80s, we’ve said farewell to our last dogs. Not sure it’s fair to bring anymore home. This was our last pack, now over the Rainbow Bridge with the others.

Best account on Twitter/BlueSky, you highlight the very best dogs and their awesome hoomans. I cry because I’ve always been a dog person and love that all dogs exude joy and devotion and sillies, not just mine. This is Dok, he’s a good boy. We howl. Grateful for We Rate Dogs 🐾🤍🖤🐾

A wonderful chihuahua name Frijole. I got him when I was 3 and he was my companion and bed partner until he passed away when I was 16. He loved only me and bit all my friends on my command! I still miss him.

My dog-person status was sealed when I took my sister’s border collie Kazzie with me on a weekend visit to a friend in Wales. On the drive home, the driver and his girlfriend insisted we stop off at a tourist center. The center didn’t allow dogs so I had to tie Kazzie up outside. /1

After 20 minutes dawdling around a bird-watching exhibit, my friends declared that they wanted a coffee. So we sat there in the cafe with our coffees. And out the window I could see Kazzie. In a field, tied to a tree. In the rain. While my friends made googly eyes at each other obliviously. /2

And despite my protestations, drank their coffees insanely slowly. So I stood up and rushed out to be with Kazzie. Because Kazzie had never once let me down, so I vowed never to let her down like that again. Our dogs love us more than most humans do. They deserve at least as much in return. /3

My first dog was a German Shepherd named Max. Such a smart boy. Then came a Mastiff named Sophie, Mickey, a Great Dane, another Dane, Schautten. Then Duke the Golden Retriever. The last 20 years I’ve had all pitbull-types: Diva, Stewie, Barney, and currently, Margie and Penny. Dogs make a family.

I used to be scared of dogs way into my twenties. Then my parents adopted a dog called Timmy, who at first made me think I would never be able to visit my parents house again 🙃 But over the years Timmy helped me to understand dogs and love them like crazy! Just writing about him makes me miss him ❤️

Your post just made me just start crying 😢! I love you .Dog guy.Bless you forever 💛 ❤️ 💓 💙 ♥️ 💖. I watch, we rate dogs 🐕. Thanks, for the joy you share and bring into mine and Stanley (Corgi)life🩵💙

Adopted an older GSP in 2017, mostly for my kid who really wanted a dog. Never had dogs growing up, never really thought about them. Then we took this dignified gentleman home, and it hit me - what on earth had I been doing up to that point, frittering my life away in doglessness??? That face!

I wasn’t really a dog person until my 30s. Our first dog was the Irish setter with my two oldest kids (now 41 and 38). We worked with Golden rescues after we adopted our first Golden. Our current dogs are at the bottom right. Graham who was rescued from the Chinese dog meat industry and Mabel.

You’re like the handsome and cool version of Zuckerberg. I hope you don’t mind me saying. Also it was the dogs. I just became a dog person because, Dogs. My first was a Great Pyrenees.

I also grew up with dogs in my family as pets as farm dogs. But I was attacked by a German shepherd when I was 8 or so. I am not a big dog lover (but I like them) but my cavalier Beau has brought me home to loving, snuggling, kissing, playing with dogs again 🥰

Because dogs are amazing, they love unconditionally & they’re natural clowns. We’ve gotten rescue dogs for the last 25 years. I believe we don’t choose our dogs, they choose us. And when you’re chosen, it changes your heart forever every time. What an honor!!🐕💙🐶💚🙏💜

Cat person here. Was afraid of dogs. Since they're so ubiquitous, I decided to get over it. I volunteered at an animal shelter and learned everything I could about dogs. Now, I can read a dog's facial expressions and pretty much get all of them to "sit!". Still a cat person, but dogs are cool.

My family always had dogs, so I feel like I have always been. But to pinpoint one moment - My parents bought a pug puppy when I was in 2nd grade and I fell instantly in love. Gidget was so tiny and cute. She went everywhere in my moms purse. Now I can't imagine life without a dog in it.

Technically I am an only child, but Trixie was my little brother. Got him when I was two and lost him my first year of college. We were best buds even when I dressed him in doll clothes. Snuck him onto my bed and of course that's the time he puked lima beans. Miss ya, baby boy.

I have always been a dog person. I could never have a dog when I was a child. I finally became a dog parent almost 16 years ago. This is Frodo, my first dog, my pirate dog, and the best dog in the world! He will be celebrating his Sweet Sixteen on the 29th of September, 2025!! 🏴‍☠️💙🐶🐾
