The "value" set by manufacturer pricing models is bloated as if they are pricing in all the gas savings and reduced maintenance at purchase. It's not that EVs are unpopular or a shrinking market, they are overpriced by car makers, demand is lower until the price is reasonable.

This is everything to do with basic economics. If your price is too high, the residuals are lower. BYD, hyundai kia and others are simply better value, and premium EV are very expensive

maintaining EVs is too expensive at this point. a better goal would be to switch to hybrids now, then add in EVs as they become a better technology. Yes you California, pay attention.

That's generally true of an EV as well, and not always true of a hybrid. Battery upgrades, which double the capacity, are priced at $13k for our first EV, a 2010 model which has saved us more in fuel than the car cost. We replaced our hybrid with an EV when the hybrid battery gave out, 150k miles.
