insane to me that @patagonia.com is suing incredibly impactful drag queen and climate activist Pattie Gonia for “harming their brand” is Patagonia not a brand for the LGBTQ+ community or for climate activists? because you’ve spent a lot of time pretending to be both.

when Pattie Gonia came to Minneapolis they actually reached out to the org I work for. they wanted us at their event to bring hundreds of new young people into the climate movement if that kind of stuff “harms your brand” I am happy to add your company to my boycott list

you would be lucky to even get to partner with Pattie Gonia. imagine a world where that’s where you put your dollars, instead of trying to bring down a queer creator and climate activist.

Patagonia TRIED coordinating with Pattie to avoid having to go down this route. They told Pattie over and over, don't do this or we'll be forced to sue, please do something else that doesn't infringe and we'll be fine. And Pattie kept saying, nope i'm doing the exact thing you said I can't

Patagonia being the name of a location is relevant, but certainly not dispositive. If Pattie started a nightclub called Patagonia, she'd be fine. But she is trying to partner with brands to sell outdoor clothing that bears a TM that closely resembles Patagonia's. That is the problem.

It resembles it enough, that it would be reasonable to assume that an average consumer might think Pattie entered into a partnership with Patagonia to market and sell these products. I.E. Pattie looks like she attempting to associate her brand with Patagonia. I.E. the reason for trademark protection

A. Patagonia is not simply a brand name; it is an often ruggedly beautiful geographic region, not copyrighted. B. Patti Gonia departed from the "brand name" spelling. C. Get over it! I'm with the poster here, if you can't support the whole community, don't expect it to support you.

I can see Patagonia legal counsel and PR having a long back and forth about bringing this suit. At some point, legal essential said, we either bring this suit, or Patagonia becomes as generic as Aspirin, or Escalator or Heroin or Dry Ice.

A. This is trademark, not copyright. Patagonia branded outdoor clothing is a protected right. B. Not enough to avoid confusion C. This has nothing to do with LGBT issues, and everything to do with Pattie purposefully infringing on Patagonia's trademark to her own benefit and Patagonia's detriment.
