5. Finally, beware of mathiness. If some Anthropic defector gains notoreity for claming a 10% chance of "AI" annihilating humanity within the decade ... I mean this shouldn't be news, but at the very least someone should ask him how he calculated that. >>

Most media sources are describing Charlie Kirk as a "conservative." That's true only if "conservative" is now a synonym for "fascist." Maybe so, but I'd like to believe that there's a Lowell Weicker clone out there somewhere.

David Roth nails another one to the wall. Some very excellent comments, too.

All the dire implications notwithstanding it is hilarious how evil this technology is. Billions of dollars spent on this greasy lying stupid thing that was literally built to replace people, and everyone that uses it gets weaker, lazier, dumber, and sadder for having done so. Well done all around.

I wonder how much he pays Melania to show up for these events. And does he pay her by the day or by the hour?

Academia in 2025: For weeks I’ve been working through botched copy-edits of my monograph, outsourced by the publisher to a company I’d never heard of, until it finally dawned on me the terrible job might be AI. A quick search confirmed the company recently launched new AI software, which now means..

There are a few images of American GI's who participated in the liberation of Nazi concentration camps. In these pictures, the soldiers look stunned, shocked, or just numb. Kristi Noem has the demeanor of the camp commandant, the person in charge of the torture and death.

That he's doing his performative fascism in front of a snarling crowd and a sea of compliant media in an arena that regularly showcases professional wrestling is just so on the nose. This is his most comfortable venue, ensconced in the WWE presidency, but with extra brownshirts.

One thing I find interesting about the echo chamber complaint is that an echo chamber just won a presidential election. Put aside the convo of whether it’s “good” or “bad” for a moment. The far right has devoted enormous resources + time to building echo chambers & loathes spaces they don’t control

Here's one of the nightmares in our future.

1. I saw a lot of people on Bluesky yesterday poking fun at Lindsay Graham saying that the U.S. would use financial sanctions to "crush" the economies of allies who tried to help the ICC. Graham is characteristically grotesque in his language, but I'm not laughing myself.

IP theft on a truly staggering scale.

Top AI systems have been trained on screenplays for over 50,000 films and 85,000 TV shows, according to a new deep dive by Alex Reiser. Not necessarily *surprising*, but good to see this dug into and confirmed: www.theatlantic.com/technology/a...

This, on the other hand, is real. "They're eating the food of your dogs, the people that came in, they're eating the dog's food. They're eating the food of the pets of the people that live there, and this is what's happening in our country, and it's a shame."

You are up to date.
