Great thread.

A thread with new information on that mural in Mashhad, including an important correction on the location, and the signals it sends about the dramatic changes happening to the regime in Iran...

I never thought I would post an al Jazeera article, but clearly there is a shift going on in the Gulf.

Almost all the public media analysis and political commentary around US/Israeli military campaign against the Islamic Republic is wrong -- most laughably so. Imagine my surprise when I came across a nearly spot on analysis in, of places, Al Jazeera!

"The Iranian regime does not undermine moral and humane basic principles like empathy" Facts remain the work of imperialism.

The poor Kurds get screwed again. Israel taking a hard line against Sharra is seeming wiser as time goes on.

US envoy Tom Barrack said Damascus will replace the Kurdish-led SDF as Washington’s partner against ISIL. Speaking in Ankara, he said Syria’s government will now handle security and prisons. A ceasefire between the SDF and Syrian government has just taken effect. #Syria

It needed to be said. This is definitely a familiar story.

Ukraine may be repeating a costly mistake in Pokrovsk. It’s a recurring pattern, seen for example in Vuhledar and Kursk – a reluctance to conduct a controlled, militarily justified withdrawal from a threatened salient when the situation no longer favors the defender. 1/

Well that’s a first (as far as I’m aware at least). A Ukrainian FPV successfully taking out a Russian Mi-8/17 helicopter. Looks opportunistic - FPV looking for targets on the road and reacts rapidly and with impressive pilot skill to seeing the helicopter rapidly approaching…

Euan MacDonald@euanmacdonald.bsky.social

The Ukrainian military says it has destroyed a Russian Mi-28 helicopter with an FPV drone. Video from the drone shows it approach the aircraft almost head on until the instant it presumably impacts. Video shot from another drone shows the helicopter crash in flames. Drones are changing war.

While Western tankies desperately try to equate 🇮🇱 with 🇷🇺🗑️, my friends in 🇮🇷 are cheering every successful strike against nuclear facilities, military bases, and the woman-hating, murderous IRGC leadership. Thankfully, neither 🇮🇱 nor the 🇮🇷 opposition care about tankie sensitivities 🤗♥️ #FreeIran

🧵 I’ve talked a lot about disordered discourse, conspiracies, polarisation, denialism. But maybe the better question is: why does this keep happening? Why does our shared reality keep fracturing? What are the drivers I talk about as a dimension of disordered discourse?

I've just come back from the Cambridge Disinformation Summit where I gave the opening keynote, titled "Demanufacturing Consent - How Disordered Discourse is Destroying Democracy", featuring everything from Fake Hooves to Jackson Hinkle being the worst. www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-FV...

Hello All, just sent out my free weekend update. The last 24 hours confirms the reality of European weakness. European leaders pretended that Trump was on their side, but when push comes to shove, Trump refuses to abandon Putin. It’s repetitive and depressing. open.substack.com/pub/phillips...

Someone asked. So: I support Jews not because I'm fond of the government in Israel, or because of a family or personal connection, or because of some Biblical or political thing. I support Jews, as people, because I'm fucking sick of them getting attacked all the time. That's it.

Not an incident I was familiar with, so this thread was both informative and ridiculously entertaining!

Five years ago today it seemed that the golden age of naval idiocy had disappeared forever. That was before the Venezuelan patrol vessel Naiguatá managed to recapture some of this spirit by fighting - at least at that point - the dumbest action of the 21st century.

This bears repeating. Trump is awful, but Biden also blew it.

5/ It is however part of a three year American approach to this war that has eschewed any strategy other than a loose concept of ‘we don’t want Russia to lose and start WW3’. That isn’t a strategy - it’s a risk aversion technique.

If you have a loved one in the armed forces, you should be absolutely livid about how careless these....people....were with the lives of our nation's service members. The stuff they were talking about could have gotten people killed. This goes beyond political party. You don't do this.
