The Saints game starting at 8:30 on Sunday morning has brought a crowd to both Ms Mae’s and Le Bon this morning

I’m still waiting for all the gen-xers to say “it’s not really a flying car if it can’t jump Snake River”

Vehicle automation systems reduce crashes by a lot, and they are improving. This study found automatic braking systems reduced rear end collisions by over 50% www.mitre.org/sites/defaul....

i challenge you to post one optimistic take or belief today on bluesky this needn’t be toxic positivity, just good ol’ run of the mill optimism/hope in the face of a torrential downpour of doom

If anyone else wants an XJ there is one with a for sale sign sitting on the levee by Cooter Browns.

WE HAVE NEVER BEEN MORE BACK. SLAM DUNK PURCHASE LIKE I’M PRIME JORDAN. THE LAST PERFECT AMERICAN VEHICLE THAT MADE IT OUT THE DOOR BEFORE HISTORY ENDED AND PUT US ON THE BAD TIMELINE. FOUR LITRE FOUR BY FOUR THAT FITS FIVE BITCHES

Do most people not know that leaded gas is still commonly used in general aviation?

This might be a good replacement for the iOS ssh apps that never seem to manage a session correctly!

Upcoming in my next version: a native web mobile UI! 📱 Zellij will have a dedicated web mobile UI with native web session switching, pane switching, a single-pane mode, a fit to screen toggle and a light/dark theme switch toggle 🪄. Read more >>> github.com/zellij-org/z...

In June I captured about 60K messages broadcast from Tire Pressure Monitoring System sensors that were rolling down Magazine street. I stripped away the ones that were obviously mine&my neighbors, the rest seem to be distributed like I'd expect.

The next step is to find a way to try and guess which sensors belong to the same car. I bet there is a way to start tracking these across time to say e.g. these 2 are the same car, only count them once. Anyway, it's exciting to see the data look reasonable!

Tonight I am giving a talk about the current state of self driving vehicles. It should be fun, everyone is welcome! (But please RSVP so we know how much pizza to order)

Shameless community plug. If anyone is in the Greater New Orleans this evening come out to the LacanAin Haze, @aaronosaur.us starts a discussion on the state of autonomous driving cars www.eventbrite.com/e/lacanain-h...

It won’t stop at math. Machines getting better at thinking through abstract problems than we are is going to be an emotional crisis for lots of people. I wish we were engaging that directly instead of having ridiculous shadow-debates about GPUs’ inherent thirst for water.

Very worried about this sort of thing hitting more broadly:

This heat can be brutal on a dog’s paws, I sprayed some water on the patio and it brought the temp down from 160F to 120F!

Yeah! Let’s bring back the superpower transmitters! Let WLW run a megawatt and cause fences to ring along with the music!

“Trump captured this agency and is abusing its power, let’s remove the whole thing” is the wrong answer.

The NHTSAs new rule that removes the requirement that passengers have a way to stop an autonomous vehicle is absurd. They say you should be able to request a stop, but if the computer ignores your you’re just along for the ride. www.jalopnik.com/2203830/nhts...

I see that—but there’s also a social urge to denigrate “fashion” partly because it’s seen as primarily a woman’s pursuit, and (esp as car enthusiasts) we need to push back on that. Cars *are* fashion accessories. We tell stories to other ppl about ourselves with our cars…

I don't understand how EV charging companies took a look at the millions of quick, standardized, and easy to operate gas pumps around the country, and said: "How can we make this process worse? I know, let's make it only work through a phone app, and require you to have a membership!"

Robin@rtkimz.bsky.social

Absolutely! and if by chance you do find a charger, you have to download their app, set up an account, give your credit card information, and hope everything works so you can pay whatever ridiculous price per kWh they decide to charge you. It is frustrating, to say the least!

Now that the storm has passed t mobile is finally distributing the emergency push alerts. We need to tell them the story of the boy who cried tornado.

Sooo many replies that accuse that article of not saying exactly what it says in the first few paragraphs! It’s about trans people fleeing persecution and rich conservatives not liking cities.

Recent research suggests there's more going on with "ideological sorting" than simply moving to places that match one's politics. It's often one of many deciding factors, such as taxes or safety. n.pr/3QobZdY

This reminded me of how you used to be able to DoS an office by sending a giant video to Slack(or maybe it was HipMonk?), and then every client would try to download it immediately tying up the office cable modem.

Bluesky@bsky.app

Pssst: We bumped the video upload limit from 100MB to 300MB to make posting bigger videos easier.

Also built on the assumption that no other company will come along and offer the same services for $22.6 trillion. Because efficiencies never show up in competitive pricing.

It’s absolutely a fishbowl where everyone tries to be holier than thou and the most wild stuff is what goes viral on social.

Boo!-per Lund@cooperlund.online

Anyway, my stance is that a lot of the complaints about AI are PR issues caused because nobody in Silicon Valley knows how to be normal, because being weird is how you signal to investors that you're different. It's not enough to say "It made me an app", you have to do this shit to stand out.

Nobody is going to repost a story that goes “my coworkers were arguing about where to go for lunch so we asked Claude and it said ‘just go to Chipotle like you always do’”

6 foot diameter tree trunk is BIG!

TK_Wharton@tkw.bsky.social

Cool thing about Olmsted docs on Audubon Park is that you can identify individual trees that still exist; plot their diameter through time. This overlay of 1936 plan shows Foucher Oaks between Mag and zoo with diameters (in) measured in 1899, 1919, and, by me, in 2021. We lost W5 in Ida August '21
