Mark Zuckerberg is straight up way more evil than Elizabeth Holmes but because he’s got a lot of money the tech press has to go to his little events and pretend his ideas are valid instead of being like “what’s up with that dumbass shirt?” and “don’t you regularly influence elections/genocides?”

RFK decided to once again target maskers in a speech, laughing about going to LA and seeing people driving in their cars while masked. And I want to make sure people know that studies have shown that the reason someone might wear a mask in their car is that it's none of your fucking business.

Everyone on instagram that’s in a band wants to share the most important information ever with me about being in a band. Sometimes that information is in the form of a list others it’s to warn me about the biggest mistakes bands make onstage. I’m assuming it’s pooping on stage. That seems bad

The New York Times wrote articles that were like "the impossible-to-characterize elusive politics of Elon Musk / he's lost interest in politics" right before he became *literally the largest GOP donor in history* the next election cycle. Twice. Two times!

Don Moynihan@donmoyn.bsky.social

This would be the most any person has donated in any election cycle. And #2 is also Musk, in 2024.

This video camera study showed that less than 5% of people on bikes broke traffic laws while riding bikes, yet 66% of people did so while driving. And perhaps even more importantly, if you REALLY want even MORE bike-riders to obey laws, build more protected bike infrastructure. Via @carltonreid.com

do think there's a danger of looking at extremely cool shit like a car driving upside down then doing a kickflip before landing, and convincing yourself it's actually lame because the guy funding it is a white supremacist

We use Airbnb because we take our dogs with us on our mini vacations. Because of my job, I stay in a lot of hotels every year. I always make fun of Airbnbs because I have to do fucking chores and pay the host a cleaning fee. Which, WTF man. One asked us to take the garbage up the road WHAT?!?

Caroline Haskins@carolinehaskins.bsky.social

Airbnb is banning its hosts from making guests do things like “stripping the bed, taking trash offsite, or washing and putting away dishes.” The hosts....are not taking it well: www.wired.com/story/airbnb...

zero hotels have asked me to take my trash down a few floors, out the door, and down the block to a dumpster. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Or ask me to do laundry but have VERY SPECIFIC directions on how to wash towels.

Do they even understand how much they’re pissing people off by doing this. Whatever research that convinces them that spamming everyone is all upside is bullshit. It is like they’d rather have all my contact info to sell to other campaigns forever than receive my donation. It sucks.

Fun fact, Laika movies very rarely make their budgets back at the box office, but they keep putting out bangers entirely because they have the one good rich boy in the entire ecosystem.

a cool thing about indie animation is that it's expected to save the entire industry, every show has to look better than the things the fans grew up on or it's a waste of time, there's no union to be found anywhere, no budget for any of it, and asking the audience to pay anything to watch is illegal

I got to live in LA as a marginally-employed skateboard photographer for 10 years because I slept on a couch for the first 2 years, split a 5br house with 7 roommates for the next 5, then moved in with my now-husband. Thanks to the housing shortage, that isn’t possible anymore. We have to build.

Oren Hadar@futureis.la

My most personal essay yet. Creative people need slack - time and space to try things and fail for a while. LA used to be cheap enough to give us that, but no more. All the tax credits and other efforts to save Hollywood will be for naught if there are no creative people left here to hire.
