Regular reminder that when you go to things while sick, you are giving those germs to people with autoimmune disorders, you’re passing them to someone’s newborn, to someone’s elderly parents. It’s “just a cold” to you but it can and does severely impact countless people.

I am b e g g i n g people to mask up at major cons, *especially* ones with 5-digit crowd sizes!! Lightbox this weekend was absolutely ravaged; I’m hearing of SO many attendees and exhibitors who got sick from doing the show this year!! Please stay safe out there! 🙏 🙏

I realized today I have a type when it comes to fictional literary characters. The reason I love Kinch Na Shannack from the Blacktongue Thief/The Thricebound Fool by Christopher Buehlman is he is cut from the same cloth as Moist von Lipwig from the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett.

A serial rapist was elected twice as President, a fact we don't reckon with nearly enough. Now one of two major political parties has been molded in his image, run for and by violent sexual abusers who hate women.

I know it’s really distasteful and dispiriting and gross to think about, but you won’t understand Trumpist politics or the status of women if you don’t understand that a lot of people aren’t just in denial about the prevalence of rape; they are affirmatively pro-rape.

That’s also why Vivek isn’t exactly lying when he says he didn’t mean to say Acton lied about being raped as a child. He doesn’t think she lied; he thinks that being raped disqualifies her from office, because she belongs to the class of people power is wielded against, not the class that wields it.

I don’t think this is exactly what’s going on, or all that’s going on. It’s not that Republicans are constructing an elaborate psychological defense against evidence that Trump is a rapist. It’s that they like that he’s a rapist, and they like rape: it enacts the power of the strong over the weak.

Julian Sanchez@normative.bsky.social

The vile attacks on Amy Acton need to be seen in the context of a party that *needs* people to believe women fabricating sexual assaults is common as rainwater. Because it’s pretty much the only way to evade the conclusion that the president is a rapist.

I think I traumatized my adult son at dinner by talking about my childhood trauma. We were discussing Amy Acton and that horrendous ad, and he called her mother a monster and said imagine having a mother like that, I raised my hand and said I had a mother like that, she sided with him too.

My life was hell for 3 years. And my mother knew for just over 2 of those and let it go until she found herself a new man, a good one that time. I used to never talk about it, but it isn't my shame. And that ad makes me so damn furious, and I'm at least happy I raised a son who is equally horrified.

He recognized the monsters, I just don't think he really knows much, but I have discussed it some before, but I think he just finally really had it sink in and he doesn't know what to do with it. With the horrors of the world and knowing someone you love had to deal with that shit.

My husband said your mother didn't abandon you. No she just told me I misunderstood and left me and my younger sister in the same house as our abuser for 2 more years. My poor son doesn't hear me talk about it much and he looked so startled.

My pal Danielle Koenig shared that her father Walter Koenig passed away last night at age 90. A performer whose kindness and warmth shone through the screen. He will be well remembered.

It turns out that choosing the lesser of two evils is, in fact, a moral imperative. And some folks want to wait for the Revolutionary Perfect, but I would equally challenge them to demonstrate a single time where a 'start from nothing, year-0' revolution has turned out well for most people.

It’s spooky season so I think I’ll rewatch some of my favorite The X-Files episodes. I’m going to start with Squeeze and then maybe skip to Ice. Maybe by Halloween I’ll be ready for Home.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

marissa mayer, fixing ai's gender problem by showing that female ceos can be evil too! 😊

This is the same rational rapist and abusers use when they point out their victims in an act of self preservation behave in a manner of subservience to their abuser to hopefully prevent or mitigate further abuse. This man is a monster and he should feel shame, but he's incapable of it.

Early this year, I visited Ingram, a TX town of ~1,900, to check out a tip. The area was starting to recover from its worst flood in a century. But as Latino workers drove to jobsites to help rebuild, the tipster said, a cop in a black Dodge Charger kept stopping them ... 🧵

Me looking at how much money we spent on vacation - must be very good and budget wisely, no more spending on myself until after the holidays. Me five minutes later - Buys a ticket for Are The Bennet Girls Okay.

RFK decided to once again target maskers in a speech, laughing about going to LA and seeing people driving in their cars while masked. And I want to make sure people know that studies have shown that the reason someone might wear a mask in their car is that it's none of your fucking business.

I dropped mine off yesterday. I wouldn’t mail it unless I didn’t have such a convenient option.

I saw a beautiful butterfly hanging out on my neighbors tree. I tried to go get its picture, but it flew away so I quickly switched to video. It is perfectly autumnal in color.

This is a terrifying thread.

Here’s something you should know about minks: They have lungs and airways remarkably similar on a cellular level to those of people. They’ve spread flus and infected humans before with COVID-19. Right now, bird flu is spreading on a Utah farm filled with thousands of them… 🧵

I need people to understand this selective good ole boy justice — the kind that protects abusers, rewards impunity, and openly flouts rule of law and equal protection under it — is Jim Crow shit, practically speaking. It's how Jim Crow terrorism FLOURISHED. Trump broadened the acceptable targets.

There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere* Like a legit, no joke, “this will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines As a species we decided, “we will survive” Let’s do that some more

I just found my moon pendant caught in my shirt. Either I’m shit at frisking myself or Baba Yaga decided I learned my lesson and returned the pendant. Either way any one else who purchased a Baba Yaga hut from @peculiarityshop.bsky.social take heed and treat her with the utmost respect.

I tried frisking myself to see if it was caught in my clothes. I’m sure this was not at all odd behavior in a group of people on a dark moonlit path. I couldn’t find it.

After our walk, which an owl was heard, but not seen we made s’mores and returned to the nature center. I looked for my brand new moon pendant, and made sure the staff would reach out if it was found.

So in the end I couldn’t decide and went with the why not both approach. Well turns out Baba Yaga doesn’t believe in sharing and just as we left the nature center for our walk I felt one of my chains dangling, and my moon 🌙 was gone. Or was it?

I binged the amazing Carrie on Amazon Prime and was thrilled to see written by @justinaireland.com pop up on my screen. I had the pleasure of meeting her at a con, and she so kindly signed the books I purchased. If you haven't watched Carrie yet, I highly recommend it.

Israeli settlers are blocking, assaulting, and robbing Palestinian olive harvesters. For some 100,000 families in the West Bank who rely on the harvest for income, this season may decide whether the olive harvest survives at all.
