The swine who rule us claim they have the right To take our lives and use them at their need; To force us for invested funds to fight, To sacrifice us to imperial greed: In name of nationality to bleed. - Robert W Service

This takes a newspaper notice & transforms it into a meditation on slavery. The unashamed business like tone, the monetisation of human beings, is deeply disturbing The rendering of this archival document, itself, become an indictment of Elizabeth Young #poetry #poemoftheday #blackhistorymonth

"The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. There are weapons that are simply thoughts, attitudes, prejudices. And the pity of it is that these things cannot be confined to the Twilight Zone." Rod Serling: "The Monsters are Due on Maple St."

I guess I wish the "press" hadn't mentioned the name of the man who killed the school shooter. Now everybody - pro-gun nuts, and anti-gun nuts - will be looking him up, trying to invade his privacy and bolster their little political positions.

And call out the border guard. The kingdom is crumbling. The king is in the counting house, Laughing and stumbling. His armies are extended, Way beyond the shore. As he sends our lovely boys to die In a foreign jungle war. "The Great American Eagle Tragedy" - Earth Opera, 1969

Joined my colleagues in New York to hear from voting rights experts on the Trump administration's attempts to interfere with our elections. They made clear that our democracy is not a spectator sport. We all play a role in keeping our elections free and fair for every citizen.

🧵🧵🧵 The NY Times posted a 15-minute video today in which I got to tell NYT what’s wrong with its coverage. They said they saw my critical posts on Bluesky and invited me to do a video with them to air my grievances. Weird, right? I didn’t hold back. I blasted their sanewashing of MAGA extremism.

I get emails from the NYTimes summing up the big headlines: "Hurricane Isaias made landfall last night as a Category 2 storm, leaving hundreds of thousands of people without power. We’ve got details on that below, but we’re starting with a look at fall movie season."

I'm trying to figure this out. I pay taxes. We all pay taxes. The state collects my money, and then makes a show of giving some of it back to SOME of us. AND the state goes further into debt in doing it. Why did they take our money in the first place?

I think we're dealing here with religious fanatics… As a friend of mine once said, "I prefer criminals to idiots. Because criminals take a rest every once in a while… But idiots, never!" - Dario Fo "The Pope and the Witch" translated Ed Emery

Those who protested Have been beaten to death But those who didn’t defend themselves Have also been beaten to death. - Bertolt Brecht - the german war primer complex from the Beginning of War: Kuhn and Constantine, translators

In war many things will increase. These things will get bigger The possessions of the haves And the misery of the have-nots The speeches of the Führer And the silence of his followers. - Bertolt Brecht - the german war primer complex from the Beginning of War: Kuhn and Constantine, translators

Firstly, I love the title of this poem Secondly, followers know I love a sonnet. This subverts the traditional sonnet, written to a single lover, to a lament to the many – and though forgotten the emotional imprint of their kisses remain ‘the rain is full of ghosts tonight’ #poetry #poemoftheday

Here in Saratoga the State Police are working in tandem on 87N (the Northway); the first tailgates someone to get them to speed up and then pull them over for speeding while a second pulls the next car over for not being able to change lanes fast enough.
