Why read The Pearlsong? •new Eng. tr. of 1 Syriac & 2 Greek texts •at least 13 scripts & 20 languages •a dragon-dosed narcotic magic spell •more about snakes/dragons/serpents •commentary light on allegory and heavy on story •the Guardian of Forever (Star Trek TOS) 1/2

The Pearlsong made an appearance on the Agade list yesterday, so I'll take it as an excuse to say that you can find hard copies here and elsewhere www.hup.harvard.edu/books/978067... And you'll find the open-access pdf here cswr.hds.harvard.edu/publications...

Calling all Geniza people: I remember reading a book/article that mentioned a family letter where the writer switches briefly from Judeo-Arabic to Hebrew in order to complain about the local government in Egypt. Now I cannot find this letter for the life of me. Any ideas?

adding this textbook for learning Classical Chinese through poetry (very sensible to both the linguistic side and the poetic) to the long list of things i don’t currently have time for :(

Holly Tannen - Cutty Wren [usa, folk](1983): This is an amazing album that really lives up to the promise of its title. This song, in particular, evokes a lost, ancient time full of mystery and darkness. It's about the huntin https://redd.it/1m00r7r https://youtu.be/wrYAgVBPz24

Reposted a couple times because the Mvskoke tense system is tricky: • past 1 -i- for roughly the last 24 hours • past 2 -vnk- for recent past events up to a few weeks • past 3 -emvt- is for longer ago • past 4 and 5 both for long ago (within or before lifetime) but increasingly only past 5 is used
