This is probably the biggest moment of my life 😭 After 4 years, the Game UI Bible has finally launched for all the world to see. A 400+ page tome of Game UI/UX goodness, celebrating all the weird and wonderful intricacies of this field. I'm SO proud of this book, and for you all to read it!

this reminded me of the absolutely ridiculous and self-indulgent event wherein I attempted to procedurally generate a newspaper article about the player's colony in clockwork empires so I'm just going to post a huge chunk of it for you to amuse yourselves

yes! as someone who’s been working in procedural text before LLMs were a thing, I really wish people had a sense of the varieties of procgen writing that *aren’t* genAI output. there’s a ton of stuff we can do (including pre-LLM, ML style AI) that’s nothing like chatbot output directly in a game.

Genuinely, this concern about AI is one of the reasons why I think having friction in video games is good and why it's increasingly important to have games that simply exist instead of catering to our expectations. Reposting this message from Kojima about "pre-digested" art:

“The Al is not just telling you what you want to hear. It is training you, one conversation at a time, to need less friction, expect more agreement, and become slightly less capable of handling a situation where someone pushes back on you”

Scarlet Hollow wears the trappings of a visual novel but in practice it is so complex and you are given so much agency it winds up feeling more like an in depth RPG. Upon completing what's out of the game so far I literally immediately made a new character with different traits.

I know it's gauche to quote tolkien but genuinely the most interesting thing in his letters to me is this one from 1963 wherein he laid out in very plain terms what I think is THE fundamental thing that makes so much art have a life in your head beyond what you see on a page or play in a game

A small milestone, my first rather big installation in a private exhibition. I'm very hyped about it!! Just wanted to share :) #art #watercolors #painting #installation #exhibition

Hello new followers and welcome! The last painting going viral gave me a bit of anxiety, so here is a pastel galaxy doodle I did to relax :) I'm also testing my new camera setup, so any feedback is welcome. #doodle #art #sciart #painting #bskyart #watercolor #galaxy #stardust

They're my favourite use for watercolour - a love letter to the way pigments in water can emulate the eroded structures we see in satellite imagery.

PLEASE y'all, file witness slips in opposition of this ILGA bill that would require OPERATING SYSTEM-LEVEL AGE VERIFICATION. This is a bad bill on privacy and a bad bill on rights and a technical nightmare with terrible implications. There is no implementation of this that would be good.
