Marc’s interview with Obama was bad but one thing rang true about social media, not that old twitter was bad or that young people just shout and scroll into the void, but that a proto site like MeetUp was the near zenith for social media because it facilitated real, sustainable human interactions

Somehow the slight possibility a goofy gamer kid entertains a feminine side on his phone is this generation's equivalent to WOMD and there is literally nothing standing in the way of a similar media-government conspiracy to plant evidence & ride rumors as pretense for tyrannical acts against lefties

One fascinating thing about the most self-serious newspaper in America with its staff of the winning journalistic meritocrats is that it routinely, institutionally publishes completely made-up bullshit speculation about pure abstractions, based on zero reporting, written as if it were plain facts

So I guess now we're all just waiting for the admin to come up with a way to silence the Epstein files uproar by releasing some fake/redacted version or just doing a press conference where a reprogrammed Gr0k takes the podium to pretend it has the final word

an important sub-theme in Tolkien's work is the last stand against evil will always be on the doorstep of deliberately ignorant & decadent people who you reluctantly to defend because they ultimately share the same fate as you

"Data from Mordor hack reveals Frodo 'not really a hobbit'" - Minas Tirith Herald Tribune

The downfall of its vain proponents aside, early 2000s atheist movement saw this on the horizon and were poo-pooed by liberals all along the way. Zappa called it in the early 80s, we are slipping into fascist theocracy, and with God in govt every kind of evil is possible

Dylan, who recorded "Talkin' John Birch Paranoid Blues" also recorded a cover of "Don't Fence Me In" for the hagiographic Reagan movie, a tribute to a man who carried Bircherism up to the new millennium

Bob Dylan wrote Masters of War, wishing death on the warmongers who send young men to do their killing and dying. On the one hand, it's a powerful song. On the other hand, Kissinger lived to 100, so thanks for nothing, Bob.

I’m a hardworking, taxpaying, churchgoing, grandkid-raising American citizen. And if I work all day long and want to go home, smoke a joint & just stare at the fireplace for 3 hours…that’s my civil liberty. ‪ @sarapayan.bsky.social‬ reports on my mission to end America's prohibition on marijuana:

Is the goal to just keep running this country into the ground long enough so that, without chance of recovery, we are forced to give up on the idea something better than this was possible?

Yesterday found myself in the house of a recently laid off Lockheed employee (fighter jet program). He had a sign up in his carport that said "Come to the Dark side, we have cookies." Cookies ran out?

Anytime I'm around folks watching a major sporting event broadcast--w/ hours of 3-piece suit commentary about players' body parts, personal lives, how good they can move a ball, etc.--I can't help but wonder what our society would be like with that much serious attention paid toward important things

Just in: David Hogg is leaving his position as DNC vice chair after the party voted to redo the role's election. This follows intense infighting, and as Hogg told us, anger with his plan to oust what he called "asleep at the wheel" incumbents in primaries around the US. 🎧 Listen to the ep here.

Someone needs to sit down Dr. Phil on a stage, in front of cameras, and lecture him on the poor decisions he has made over the course of his career, and how he can do better. That person should be Oprah.

Will they reel in Hogg and successfully deliver another decade of treading water, or will Hogg accomplish something for his generation?

Carry the spirit of '76 long enough and it just manifests in mercenary hits on what the founders created "Need to switch to encrypted. Alerts being sent out to [law enforcement]" "cant say officially, but I support you all & don’t want to see your group’s name & reputation dragged through the mud"

There’s a connection btw Elon’s “the sun will eventually die so we have to leave Earth” and Joni Ernst’s “well we’re all gonna die anyway” – a nihilistic rejection of all the horizons that matter most

Early 2000s atheism got derailed by confusion over its identification with certain snarky libertarian intellectuals, but it certainly didn't go far enough and now transparent rhetoric based on "celestial dictatorship" is still being used as justification for worldly dictatorship

Once you have spent a certain amount of billions on publicly visible failing, ultimately pointless technology, people apparently just get used to a guy always being around and failing with everybody else's money. That's just him doing his thing. Then CBS does a flattering interview and it's okay.

Then, down the road when endless growth requires the space travel industry to merge with commercial travel, your shuttle may go down in flames and the Musk response will be "Leaks caused loss of main tank pressure during the coast and re-entry phase. Lot of good data to review.”

Just saw this interview where the question was “how far do you think we are from having AI operate as a junior engineer 24/7?” I cannot stress enough that I would pay a reasonable fee to 𝘯𝘰𝘵 have an unsupervised junior engineer operating 24/7 in our codebase.

We can’t even begin to explain how dumb this period was to future generations unless they sit through hours of these insane moments that don’t even make the news anymore

It's distressing to see an uncredentialed online influencer appointed to Surgeon General and advocate alternative approaches to industrialized medicine. But her appeal resonates with millions who have seen loved ones diagnosed with conditions that do not heal even with the best modern medical care

Contra both sides, my aunt ate healthy her whole life and processed insurance for a dermatology practice for a full career before retiring and immediately getting diagnosed with bone cancer that evaded all treatment. She followed every bit of advice from her doctor & ignored alternatives

IMHO, some of it is bad writing and direction, but a lot is just *structure*---the movies spend way too much time on meaningless set-up, and so we never have time to actually focus on what matters.
