Rep. Dan Crenshaw on Medicaid: "The person we're taking it away from is the able-bodied adult with no children who refuses to work."

Yes they have health care and the millions of fed workers they fired, now have no healthcare Imagine how many of these people were being treated for cancer, medical conditions or pregnant-because we don’t have universal healthcare, they will quickly loose everything else to pay healthcare costs

Medicare which retirees pay for out of their Ss checks require a supplemental ins. So, $200. A month out of $1300. Plus pay for more? Where do you live, in your car?

Same strategy they use for voting. If you put enough speed bumps and road blocks in the way some people will not be able to negotiate them that would otherwise be eligible. They will simply do without, end up in an ER too far gone when earlier intervention could have saved them. And it costs us all.

It’s good that Crenshaw and the rest of the GOP members of Congress don’t receive full healthcare coverage, on the taxpayer’s dime, because he’d obviously be morally and personally opposed to it

Removing access to space travel from people who don’t travel to space does not reduce the cost of space travel. Similarly: Removing access to medical care from people who don’t use medical care does not reduce the cost of medical care.

This isn’t welfare, dumbass. People on Medicaid work. They’re just not making enough money to afford healthcare. It goes to poorer folks, whether they’re single or family men. I swear, what’s being revealed daily is how ignorant a lot of reps are about how ANYTHING really works.

Republican politicians know very well how these programs work. They are just banking on their voters buying their "it's rife with fraud" BS as an excuse to cut them.

Would love them to provide verifiable data about how much these supposed “able-bodied, single, childless” people who refuse to work actually cost Medicaid. I suspect they are medicaid unicorns.

There is probably 10 in all the country. The others dont refuse to work, they can't get a job. I imagine many are homeless and no one gives someone a job when they dont have an address, phone, or shower.

Yes. I would pay 90% in taxes just to not have to talk about this anymore. Just take my money so I never have to call insurance again or walk past another person made homeless by medical debt or hear a friend is skipping preventative medical care bc they can't afford it.

(I understand that universal health care would actually save me money, that any tax increase would be offset by not having to pay insurance premiums. But even if it wasn't, I'd pay so much tax to get to stop thinking about how fucked up the system is and watching people get hurt by it. Worth it.)

A real journalist would turn around and ask Rep Crenshaw to define “able bodied” That would be just question number 1 of many, from just that 1 sentence. Not to mention, if he has facts regarding who receives Medicaid benefits.

The “fraud” in Medicaid and Medicare - where it actually exists - is from insurers’ and providers’ erroneous billing. It’s not “welfare queens” lying on an application. I’m so fucking tired of that old trope. Hey, Republikkkans - Ronald Reagan called and wants his lie back.

imagine my surprise when i moved from the DC 'burbs to eastern oregon and discovered that the Welfare Queen isn't really a young black woman named "Shaniqua" with salon nails, hair extensions & 3 baby daddies, but a middle aged white woman named "Tammy", the 3rd of a 5-generation welfare family. 🙄

Yeah, the old "Little old lady driving her Cadillac down to the welfare office to pick up her check." The Reagan recession broke my union, de-regulated my industry, got me laid off, took away my railroad retirement, reminded me how rich I used to be, then shamed me for being unemployed.

Even those rare undocumented immigrants who might be benefiting from some government program (not medicaid though) are likely contributing more to the US treasury in taxes than the Billionares and corporations are. The latter are now getting another tax break, paid for by those who DO contribute.

Just like the opiate crisis was also caused by providers &drug manufacturers via mismanagement and not the fault of 'evil' patients looking for relief. Just like Ozempic shortage is caused by same thing - providers&companies doing bad job. Just like antibiotic resistance is caused by same+agricultur

Just like the biggest users of drugs are the wealthy (bc u have to have money to afford drugs). The biggest thieves vis wage theft by far are also the wealthy, not the poor (poverty actually doesn't cause immorality, entitlement does). The ppl who rape (Diddy, Epstein) & kill the most - the wealthy

Define able-bodied. Define adult. Define refuses. Define work. Hell, define children while you're at it. All of these words are open to interpretation, and I'm sure they are going to take the harshest one they can find.

So everyone who doesn’t have a six-figure job has a choice: work and have unaffordable/unusable healthcare or not work so they can get medical care. Kicking people off Medicaid doesn’t solve the fucking problem, but it does, once again, show how cruel and awful Republicans are.

If you’re able bodied, you’re not taking money away from anybody by being on Medicaid. Rather, if you’re on private insurance, you’re paying out of pocket for the healthcare of old and unhealthy people. Which would be fine if you were rich. But if you’re not, absolutely you should be spared.

Faux Spews gets airtime once again. And this time it's (check notes) Lyin Dan Crenshaw. Another failed human below my dignity level to even listen to. Why does Faux get so much airtime? THAT is how extremism gets normalized.

Able bodied adults with no children do not qualify for Medicaid. If there is fraud it would be minuscule. I’m a retired nurse/social worker who’s helped patients file for it. It’s not easy to qualify. Anyone who has ever tried to get Medicaid would know this.

They do in states that chose to expandMedicaid under Obama. This begs the question, can they reverse a law through budget reconciliation? One would think the reversal of a nation-wide law would take more debate than simple majority.

My own crazy thoughts is that any politician - local, state, and federal - should not be earning a salary higher than a majority of their constituents and should not profit from their position. They're supposed to be civil servants. Take away their salaries, and you'll see who actually wants to help

How do you know who’s working or not? You cut the money first to support the tax cuts then you backfill victims until you match the cut. Your idiot leader has caused a bad recession we will feel in weeks. People will be laid off. Under Biden jobs were tight and workers had some power. Not now.

They seem to think that the USA has a cushy social system that supports freeloaders. This attitude is hilariously misguided to me as a European immigrant. The actual freeloaders in the USA are the super rich!

FACT: Creating work requirements does not automatically mean that anyone who ends up losing Medicaid is an able-bodied adult who refused to work. Zombie Fourth Estate: This MAGAt KKKult logical fallacy is going to create tons of click-bait and make us all kinds of money, so let's run with it.

The maga target audience consists of people who have been conditioned by years of oligarch-funded propaganda to believe everything and anything the cult leaders say. "Woke" and immigrants and trans and on and on and on. Yes, there is no relation to reality; the relation is to propaganda.

This whole obsession about the debt is almost a Republican sexual kink. You cannot be fiscally responsible and not seriously consider revenue. You could almost take them seriously if they did program cuts and increased revenue by taking the wealthiest Americans. Almost but not really.

You shouldn't be taking it away from anyone, because everyone needs healthcare. This idea of deserving tiers - especially from a freeloader like Crenshaw, who is paid by taxdollars to undermine the lives of others to enrich his friends - is especially stupid when it comes to healthcare

Yeah h the able-bodies single person who has to work three jobs at minimum wage just to be able to pay their rent. Rep Crenshaw, maybe you should demand that workers get paid a living wage. In my area now it is $24 and change per hour

Yeah, that's one of the problems with Crenshaw. Like Vance, these guys actually aren't stupid - evil and conniving maybe, willing to twist perceptions of the weak minded with tuned stories meant to glorify self and denigrate the 'other'. Tactically more polished than Trump, and more dangerous.

Does he mean the thousands of Walmart employees that they refuse to provide medical insurance to? The US system seems to be that employed people should get insurance through work? So why are huge corporations not held accountable if they don’t provide it?

In the Georgia program, 95% of the qualified workers couldn't get the benefit even though they were working, because the paperwork was so consuming, and it ended up costing the state more money than it would have cost to just drop the requirement. www.washingtonpost.com/health/2025/...

washingtonpost.comAs Republicans weigh Medicaid work requirements, Georgia offers a warningOnly a small number of people were enrolled in the state program, and administrative costs exceeded spending on medical care.

He’s just repeating the usual anti-Welfare, dog-whistling nonsense so he can suggest that only “colored folks” get Medicaid. But there’s a ton of Red State white folks (many of whom support Trump) who are on it as well. But he and the others will couch the Medicaid cuts as anti-“DEI” and so on.

I take care of my two disabled parents because social security and Medicare doesn't pay me. I work much more than a job I would actually get paid for. So I don't deserve insurance that covers me seeing a doctor every year to make sure I don't have cancer again. These people are evil.

Neither were but thank you for the info. I used to get paid with my mom on medicaid not a lot,but still something. When my dad got his disability it combined their income so they both don't qualify for mediciad anymore.
