The result in the SA v Aus game is why the Test is the best format of the game. In their innings, South Africa were in a world of trouble and were dug out by an initially obdurate Bavuma before his bowlers then rattled through a stunned Australian batting line up. Fantastic work by the Proteas.

The Grav10 experiment has been a bit of a disaster. Barely involved in possession and nonexistent without the ball (0/7 in duels). Basically the anti-Wirtz.

Lots of european competition women’s football overnight but I want to draw your attention to this epic defensive effort by Hearts in the UEFA Europa Cup. Haven’t seen such a siege defence since the Siege of Orleans in the 15th century.

This new ten seconds rule to come off when substituted doesn't really allow for a grand goodbye to a club legend at the end of the season. Hopefully common sense will prevail should Van Dijk leave at the end of the season and be substituted with four minutes to go at Anfield.

It's not about immigration and never has been. It's just racism. The more ground we cede to this idiocy, the worse it gets.

The ref is looking right at this and doesn't give the foul despite it being clear and obvious, and VAR also doesn't bother. Great process, guys. #LFC

Wild that this wasn't a penalty, especially after the nonsense given against Alisson. #LFC

I've been doing some more research into this. Here's the weighted squad age of all teams in the top five leagues across a full season ('51-52). Now some isolated teams look fine, but for so many to have an average squad age weighted by minutes in the 30s+ is nuts.

After reading a recent article by The Athletic looking at Newcastle United's change in transfer policy towards young players, I wanted to investigate how Football Manager 26's AI handles transfers and squad building. Am I the baddies, AKA Chelsea? Here are the results. Reposts appreciated.

If I just look at the Bundesliga, where I'm managing, this doesn't look to be as bad, but I'd have to check how much I'm skewing this with my squad and players I've loaned out to other Bundesliga sides who have played more than the prerequisite minutes. It does at least look more reasonable.

Nonetheless, there are not enough players who are in their early 20s that are playing sufficient football who are developing by playing minutes. This is where #FM27 has to improve for me. SI really have to overhaul the AI to favour younger players over older, going for PA over diminishing CA.

If you then look at the breakdown of the summed minutes by player ages across all teams, again, the picture demonstrates that #FM26 allows squads to age without replacing them. The label above each column is the frequency of players of that age who have played a minimum of 1,000 minutes.

Again, that's evidence of old players still being preferred. The most minutes being played by 30-year-olds, and for them to be the most frequent, isn't representative of modern football in the top leagues, where physicality is an important consideration.

Having turned over to the Test, I really want England to declare and bowl on this with it doing absolutely loads and going along the floor every now and then. If Brook is finding it hard work, there's no way the Pakistani batters are going to be able to cope against our attack.

If you're an optimistic type: #LFC have played poorly and not lost in the last two games If you're a realist: LFC have played very poorly and look a long way off challenging for anything If you're a pessimist: LFC are awful in every respect, and our DoF doesn't know what he's doing.
