Scribbler of rambunctious eloquence. Mostly comedy, but not always. Prone of occasional bouts of mild sarcasm. Never contrarian not even once. Love movies, beer, music, tacos, and floating in a Texas river.

For the eleventy thousandth time: baseball remains a tremendous training tool for learning to handle adversity. At almost every turn the odds are stacked against you, with success largely just on the fringe of your control. Almost every moment is spent on the cusp of heartbreak. #ScriptSky

The one that glows golden and beautiful and smiles at you and says "you're doing OK. Don't give up now." Or you'll get a kind unexpected comment from a reader. Or a producer says something like "you're tremendous writer. Just keep chasing. It's not about the ability. It's about the opportunity."

So you tighten your laces and dust off your cap and grab your glove and trot back onto the field for another go. Because we do not give up. WE DO NOT GIVE UP. Maybe it doesn't happen for us today. If so, I can endure that. Because one day it will happen. I WILL MAKE IT HAPPEN. No matter what.

Every once in a while the cosmic gears align and the gods nod and you're granted a taste of the truly sublime: your bat finds the sacred sweet spot in the fat middle of that pitch. Your glove reaches that drive which no mortal human has any right to catch. Your slider kisses the edge of the frame.

Writing feels a lot like that. At least, it does for me. You spend untold hours-- days, weeks, years-- pleading with the Universe to grant you just a moment of glorious success, and some days it feels like that dream is only that: an impossible dream. But then... you'll discover That Line.

The best you can manage in most moments is to approach that moment with the confidence (foolish bravado, if need be) that you are ready. You are prepared. You are sufficient to the task. As often as not, of course, you'll be exposed as a fraud. A Poseur. A deluded rube. But that's the real joy:

Just another reminder that this is happening later this week, so if you're coming to AFF and see a weirdo with a bowling bag with a head inside (that's me)-- flag me down for a sticker! 😁 And come out for the table read #Scriptsky #Filmsky

Massive shoutout to @kim-hu.com for taking the insane yet strangely charming tone of this script, and translating it into an amazing design for my sticker! 💜 If you're HEADING to AFF 🗣️ look for me and my bowling bag so you can snag one of my stickers-- and come for the reading! #Scriptsky #Filmsky

My brain is messed up. For no reason at all —clear blue sky rando thought— “Quentin Taratino’s BEDKNOBS & BROOMSTICKS.” The terrifying part is I can seen that actually working. It’s insane, but it works.

I’m on vacation but probably about to head in to work on a “teachers workday” thing where I just knock out some annoying paperwork and never once visit the sales floor. And if I’m asked to help in a project… “that’s it. I’m gone?” And vacation resumes at maximum strength.

Y’all, Jack Herrera’s reporting is crucial. If you want to understand *anything* about South Texas, begin here. Heck, if you want to understand anything about the Southwest.

That’s too bad. 🤣

China’s first AI-generated theatrical feature has flopped, earning just $181,000 in its first weekend. By contrast, the scrappy ‘Niu Lai’ turned its crude animation into a viral attraction, grossing nearly $10 million a couple of months ago. www.cartoonbrew.com/box-office-r...

My heart is heavy. Walter Koenig, our Ensign Pavel Chekov, passed away early today. Walter and I met on the bridge of the Enterprise in the 1960s, and we stayed friends for nearly six decades. When Brad and I married in 2008, Walter stood beside us as our best man.

Rest in peace to actor and screenwriter Walter Koenig, who passed yesterday at the age of 90. Koenig will be forever remembered as Chekov in STAR TREK and Alfred Bester in BABYLON 5. STARLOG sends our love to his family, friends, and infinite fans.

Oh Lordy. I checked the updated forecast for the coming week in #Austin. Anyone coming in for #AustinFilmFest… it’s slickers and galoshes time. 🌧️☔️🌧️ #scriptsky

Sounds great to me. 👍

In his acceptance speech, Lula says he will work to regulate digital platforms in Brazil. “Digital crimes must be dealt with like real-life crimes.” This comes after Meta directly interfered with the Brazilian elections, favouring Flávio Bolsonaro.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

For two years, student-led protests have raged against Aleksandar Vučić and his corrupt government in Serbia. Today, in parliamentary elections, he was toppled. One of the most sustained protest movements in recent European history has succeeded. Resistance works.

BELGRADE, Serbia (AP) — Serbia’s strongman leader Aleksandar Vucic has conceded defeat to a student-led movement in a seismic political shift.

Expect massive ketchup throwing tantrums from someone this weekend. 🤣 He will NEVER be as loved and respected as Obama.

Obama in Michigan: "He is focused on home renovations. He should be on HGTV! ... He's got the White House looking like Saddam Hussein opened a Cheesecake Factory"

I dream of that day when I finally take a baseball bat to the alarm clock and smash it into a bajillion pieces and then tell it “Good bye. We shall not meet again.”

Talarico: You want to know why they are spending $200 million against me? Because I don’t take their corporate PAC money and I never will. I don’t work for them. I work for you. When we flip this seat in Texas, I’m going to vote to ban corporate PACs so billionaires can’t buy our elections.
