Today, the Federal Trade Commission and 20 states sued Dollar General for chronically charging customers more than the shelf prices for food and other necessities. This was the subject of our December 2025 investigation in @theguardian.com, and the lawsuit quoted directly from our article.

I can confirm. Indivisible Action spends about a dime of every dollar raised on fundraising costs, which is very efficient. They are a good example of what a genuine grassroots operation looks like.

Indivisible ❌👑@indivisible.org

We’ve seen a lot of recent reporting on shady fundraising tactics that get Democratic consultants rich, but don’t do much to help Democratic campaigns. So let us be as clear as humanly possible: Every dollar you donate today will be spent on winning the midterms and protecting the results.

The Bolsonarists didn't change their minds, they didn't suddenly stop believing that their man could do no wrong and that Lula was an existential threat to Brazil. They were simply outvoted by those who refused to risk a return to fascism, and decided not to sit this election out.

From the govt's press release: "The developer estimates that Jackdaw will create 27 new direct jobs and safeguard 273 existing jobs that would otherwise be lost." Odd that so much is made about this being good for jobs. Your nearest out-of-town supermarket likely generates more jobs.

So Claude is not internally hollow, but neither does it have beliefs. Yet Suleyman anthropomorphises while cautioning against it, and elevates Claude to the status of a 'synthetic species' (um, no?) even as he marks the difference between AI and an evolved organism with homeostatic imperatives. Sigh

Claude IS hollow of mental states of awareness, for reasons the essay is mostly right about. But it's not hollow of mathematical structures that mirror the language used to express beliefs; later, Suleyman points this out - that Claude is trained to 'mirror' the human examples provided to it.

A prime example of why AI 'leaders' are not who anyone should be listening to about AI, right and consciousness. It's not all wrong! In fact, it starts off very sensibly: "AIs do not have rights, feelings, or consciousness. And we must not train them to act as though they do". But then...hoo boy 1/n
