Maybe people don't all care about the quality of free slop on the internet, but it looks like people care about quality when they have to pay. It's about to look real rough for folks who bet big on "AI".

Also, I don't think people are losing jobs to "AI". I think companies spent big on "AI" and saw basically no returns after making unrealistic promises about future growth. I think they're laying people off to close that gap.

"I fixed the auto industry in Michigan" only works until people in Michigan look around, notice nothing's been fixed, and speak up about it. Trump is not a problem solver, he's a problem that needs to be solved.

The billionaires will leave if we tax them? Good. Let them go learn how much it costs to build the knowledge base and infrastructure that we already have here. They've exploited us all for so long that they just take it all for granted. Let them leave, or let them stay on our terms.

All past income, not profit, income from AI should be chopped up by percentages of how much it was trained on and being given back to artists as a licensing fee. Period. If it isn't profitable, tough tiddies. It isn't profitable to steal either. Boo hoo.

It struck me that almost every seemingly intractable problem on today's front pages could be substantially alleviated simply by taxing the extraordinarily wealthy people and corporations whose greed, short-termism and pursuit of power we protect at the expense of almost everything else.

Democratic lawmakers could score some points with laws that prohibit the American president from using executive orders to -temporarily- rename geographical features. It's stupid, silly, clownish bullshit that trump did any of this. It shouldn't be hard to fix it.

The "AI" companies know their project is never going to pan out like they imagined. I can't imagine being twisted enough to pick up the entire world economy and strangle it in the midst of all this chaos. Billionaires know that without the economy, their numbers are worthless, right?

The panic on the right is palpable. Some folks are absolutely terrified of some consequences. I sincerely hope Democratic leadership doesn't let them all walk. Prepare to see a shit ton of preemptive pardons and a mess of people who complained about Biden's pardons screaming imagined justifications.

Democrats need to run hard against Elon Musk. They need to warn the public that the world's richest man is spending $276 million to attempt a hostile takeover of our government.

Not wanting to admit the liberals/leftists were right about trump is almost certainly keeping some folks on the sinking ship. Swim you fools, and take your medicine, then help us end this ridiculous corruption.

No one else is gonna make up for your vote. If you're thinking there's no way maga can gain ground in this shit show so you don't have to go to the polls, punch yourself in the face, then get to the polls on election day. Your vote is NECESSARY.

It is in no way a mysterious move for putin to try to throw NATO into disarray, but it's disappointing how easy it was for him to do. I wonder how many political flashpoints can be traced back to russia.

"You're a NIMBY about AI data centers!" Actually I'm a NOMP (Not On My Planet) about privately-owned fixed-location infrastructure externalizing the cost of burning hydrocarbons for energy. If they had to pay what this really costs society in health and climate harms, they wouldn't do it.

Brad Johnson@climatebrad.hillheat.com

My god. A Virginia data center ran backup diesel generators full blast for 24 hours, creating a giant cloud of toxic smoke that choked its human neighbors. The government claimed there was nothing they could do.

Amazing how "AI" started out as an inevitability, but we didn't bite, so now they're trying to make it a "freethinker" "individualist" technology and having a bunch of young morons hype it. I'm actually fine with billionaires melting the brains of the idiots who venerate them, so carry on.

A celebrity staying quiet about politics during a time when we face growing authoritarianism just means that celebrity doesn't have courage. That's all. I lost a lot of viewers when I spoke out against Trump. I don't care. It's better to use my influence to speak out against authoritarianism.

If someone is pro-trans and they say they don't want men in women's sports, could they mean "I don't think trans women are men, men are men, and I don't want men in women's sports"? Are we at the point that we should consider using the aggressor's language to trick them?

Billionaires are pulling all the stops to shut tight the eyes of humanity. They're spending untold, literally until sums of money to stop us all from seeing something they've done. What are they hiding? What are they willing to destroy the world to hide?

The class action suits against the oil companies, should we manage to break our government's unending devotion to them, are going to be massive. It'll only happen when renewables beat oil in every way, but that time is coming. Wish we could start sooner though!

matt garman is trying to make datacenters not seem like a big deal. matt is a liar, but that is only a small drop in the depths of matt's immorality. Fuck you matt, and I hope every datacenter project, especially the ones with which you're involved, burns to the fucking ground. tinyurl.com/y62vvjwk

tinyurl.comThe race our nation can’t afford to lose, plus a new commitment from us and a fresh set of community investmentsAmazon's commitment to community-focused data center development, plus introducing Built Together, a new investment program for data center communities.

"AI" is already not cost effective, but imagine how much less cost effective it would be if all these billionaires had to pay for armed guards at every datacenter. That would be wacky. Just thinking out loud for a story I'm writing, wink.

I imagine angela paxton is locked into a sort of mutually assured destruction scenario with ken. He's not fit for a committed relationship, but he's fit to make major life-altering decisions for Texans? Give me a break.

We need trust busting yesterday. That the paramount merger was allowed to go forward in a world that looks like ours is worse than criminal, it's deeply immoral. Under no circumstance should david ellison be in charge of shaping mud into a pie, let alone culture at large.

chris rufo is a clownish moron, and the only thing his success at altering discourse proves is that there are too many clownish morons in this country. If anyone needs to be kicked out, it's them.

A whole lot of folks learning that fascist don't make the trains run on time. A little historical non-fiction suggests fascists have NEVER made the trains run on time. What a tangled mess we all have to unwind now.

The trump admin just rescinded Title IX protection for LGBTQ students in public schools nationwide. I'm surprised they didn't pull this cord sooner? Yes, it sucks, yes it's evil, but this was always going to happen under this admin. Keep your eye on the ball. We have to win to turn this ship around.

It's fun to see how nervous the conservative SCOTUS is about the coming maga dissolution. They'll find any scrap of justification to tilt things in favor of republicans. The court must be expanded and we must remove power from this rubberstamping crew of activist conservatives.

Some folks have 3 choices this election: 1. Eat a full ton of human shit. 2. Eat a single turd (or possibly no turd at all). 3. Let someone else choose for you. You would choose the third option? And you think that sends an intelligent message?

putin talks a big game, but russia doesn't have the resources to sustain a war against a relatively small country, let alone western Europe. There is NO SHOT russia (putin) launches drones against France, Italy, or Spain. It would be one of the dumbest moves in all of human history. Or?

I imagine the hope was that the masses would treat "AI" like the next space race, like we were all in it together, chasing a major breakthrough for humanity. I'm thrilled to see just about everyone I know give "AI" a pass. The current technology sucks, and has huge external costs.

Don't get complacent looking at polls that put dems ahead. You have to go vote. Make a plan now if you haven't already. Check your voter registration. Make sure you know more than one way to your polling station. All the polling in the world means nothing if you don't cross the finish line. VOTE.

There's a short exchange in the classic (1990) film "Kindergarten Cop" in which a concerned mother speaks with the cop who is undercover as a teacher. She shares that her son has been playing with dolls, which she characterizes as weird, and the subtext is that she's worried her son might be gay.

The cop, played by Arnold Schwarzenegger and wearing a wry smile, informs her that her son uses the dolls to look up girls skirts, to which she replies, "That's a relief." To be clear, she is relieved that her son is not gay, and is not worried that her son is violating others. Played as a joke.

A mom thinking "better a peeping Tom than gay." That was 1990. Homophobia was AMBIENT. This movie is PG-13. Everyone I knew between the ages of 7 and 23 used "gay" to mean bad or worthy of scorn. The f slur was everywhere. And forget about being openly trans.

Invoking trans people as the seed of demise for civilization was only going to work for so long. That's the whole damn premise of the boy who cried wolf! Eventually people realize that trans people aren't the reason they can't afford fuel and food or why we're in another pointless war.

Some people say "AI" makes skills available to people who never had them or the resources to attain them. Bullshit. At best it makes people believe they have access to those skills, but put the slop next to professional work and witness a gulf that will never shrink.
