Covered an area of wall with records in a sort of shrine or vision board. They are all real records of significance with the vinyl in 'em but which I have replaced with undamaged ones to measure. Since I cannot part with the ones I had all my life, I'll look at 'em, knowing I have also got nicer :)

K, so I can't find a second copy of Fragile, though I'd swear I got one at some point. So, I believe I found the Blues For Allah I had as a kid, and put that up instead. Now THOSE are some memories, and more personal than the ZZ Top would be. Done <3 now time for dinner. Tomorrow, pluginstream :)

Also it fits with Bayou Country as they're all Californians, and would annoy Frank giving him reason to glare out from my wall. So it all works. And Blues For Allah is really one of the great record covers ever :) aaarraabian wiiiinnnnddss…

Then, one of the 'cannot give up' discs, my copy of Larks' Tongues In Aspic'. I found a copy that was quieter and has a funny misprint, but my old copy represented THE most astonishing music it was possible to make. (should put up a Fragile in place of the ZZ Top really: Bill Bruford means so much)

And lastly, my copy of Apostrophe. It has severe groove damage starting Side One from a cartridge experiment 35 or so years ago. I got another copy, but this record combines the wildest virtuosity with humor and soulfulness, and I'll happily have Frank stare at me from over my record player <3 <3 <3

After that, I stuck a spare copy of Tres Hombres, just because Waitin/Jesus and La Grange are so cool. Also because literally all the old London copies are so DARK and yet that is completely fine. Just because it's dark doesn't make it a bad mix.

Next to that, the copy of Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick I grew up with. I got a cleaner copy, also original, but this showed me what music and sound could even do, when I was a kid entering (so briefly) college. It was a revelation, and I never knew it was also intended as a joke. Heard only music.

The next row (they're two wide) is a spare copy of the first Led Zeppelin. Represents inventing a whole, huge-scale sound with that instrumentation, there is so much to be learned from the production of old Zeppelin. Not as much personal value there, but a spare legit 1969 record.

The one after that is (I believe) THE copy of Bayou Country I played to death over my lifetime. I don't think it's heavily damaged but I think this is the one I turned to for those gripping, super-intense sounds. I found a less scratchy one, but this one was mine. It belted FOR me when I daren't :)

I have them in order of release (roughly) so they're also a history. First one: Disraeli Gears. I've just got a NICE replacement with incredibly unfaded cover and it's insane, but I've had an old worn copy forever. Represents guitar music beginning to step out post-skiffle and post-blues.

Following it, a radio station Steamboat Reprise copy of Are You Experienced. Jimi came around after Cream was already playing. My copy is BEAT UP but it's the three-color Reprise label, i.e. unbelievably old. Sounds live and wild. I'll be showing it on an Unauthorized at some point. Old tube record.

One of those deathmarch unreasonably tough days. You're getting Echojam if it kills me, because it is AWESOME. Four hours of trying to demonstrate that with a live guitar plugged into my video-making setup failed utterly AND I found a bug in Echojam, patch 5 of 17, on top of the video disasters.

Couple hours later, I'm finishing up all the plugin distribution parts, leaving the video making for last. If the video is all derped up that's fine, but I'd like to have the actual plugins be fully functioning and without problems, and it looks like I got there <3

Dinner made (hours late but I made it!) and patron and Forbidden Music videos made and rendered out. Now let's see if I can do the plugin video, and then I can sleep :) Echojam tomorrow! I should just do streams of THAT next week since the video gave me such trouble :)

And then while the Linux and Pi versions are busy compiling, I will edit the final video, where I just tracked the guitar to a file and then used THAT in the usual configuration to demo Echojam. ALL the cool stuff I was doing was lost. All the jamming into odd settings, highlighting stuff…

Doesn't matter. I will have a fully functioning Echojam there for you tomorrow, as if nothing had been wrong, and you'll never know how much better the four hours of failed videos were. Half the time they didn't even capture the damn Reaper output. Nightmare. But by tomorrow, video & plugin both. <3

So I am going super-hard (with coffee after 4 pm but it might be an all nighter for all I know), have already found the Echojam bug, am making sure it's not the only one through rigorous file-editing to make the code so other wrong values didn't also get through, and then I'll rebuild all the plugs.

Good coding Thursday. Aimless hemming and hawing interspersed with blinding activity. Turns out you can get REALLY pungent inductor-EQ resonances just by messing with your SVFs right, and the EQ section for ConsoleV should be good after serious tuning. It'll still be kind of wild tho :)

Really making a hell of a lot of progress on Meter for those who are watching. There'll be a new video by the end of the month, as there's lots to explain. In the newest release I wrote out in detail exactly what's happening, and I'm enthralled by how it's doing a better and better job as Meter.

Probably no point mentioning it to those who know me but… it's not good CODE per se. Absolutely no AI 'helping' this. What I'm doing isn't in the AI weights. It's outside the edges of common knowledge and I'm chasing reality not represented in common knowledge: when it works, it really works.

It'd all go away if I asked AI 'I dunno, what do you think?' and is largely the product of me having a fierce intention and sticking to that for years on end. Do as I do. Want and mean stuff, and put in the work yourself so you can get a feel for where it's going, and stick with it. You can do this.

Capturing records I've had cleaned. Traffic, 'John Barleycorn Must Die', still crackly but an amazing old old pressing that feels so alive. I've been experimenting with bass DI techniques to try and get into this zone. So far a simple Rolls transformer DI is doing best, which kind of figures…

It's like with my Wolfbot plugin, the bass DI has to hugely rein in what's actually there in the bass signal, handle it like an amp might, by failing to transfer subsonic noises. Plugins struggle to this but an undersized transformer DI automatically does it. Got a nice demo clip that should work :)

It's looking like I have another Meter video brewing, because of the new feature. I have a HILARIOUS set of examples for notable sounds that peg that meter to exactly the top edge (or just above, for effect). Really seem to have hit on something with this one, didn't realize 'Beam' would lead here.

Got followed by a notable Godot dev. If you wonder why I'm so interested in a game engine when I'm in the music business: the program I wrote to pursue genetic algorithm reverb design and just updated literally yesterday, that I've been improving for years, is a Godot program. Combined GDScript/C#.

I absolutely love the freedom to just explore ideas that don't exist yet, in a framework that can act like all kinds of things, and with patience I may well be able to contribute what I've learned back to the engine. Not alone, because the engine dev is beyond me… but audio environments are NOT :D

Also having the framework include 3D spaces and 2D windows with all manner of widgets, is extremely awesome. Takes me back to REALbasic so many years ago, on a 68040, as I began to relearn programming and making stuff exist :)

I'm going to enjoy working with this one. It immediately showed me the new song I did was wrong and not mixing the voice correctly :D

Yo, Bushy, you have to link to the gofundme page! :D this is an old friend of mine who does a lot of physical media old school art. Signal boosted and I'll pitch in a bit when ya post the damn link :D

Hello Furry Friends! I'm in a bind.... My poor old car blew a head gasket and needs engine repairs/ replacement before she is fit to drive anywhere. I can't afford the repairs, and have created a gofundme page to rasie funds to get my car running again. Please help if you can. Thankyou

RIP Proteus/1 Orchestral. A real bummer, I was getting into making horn patches that used poly aftertouch to lean notes a bit sharp. It started crapping out (repetitive powercycling), I tried reflowing solder joints in the power supply that looked sketchy, but then it was just done.

Six Sines and probably Surge XT can do what I was doing, but they're not Proteus/1, which had a distinct very eighties hardware-synth sound, for all that it was purely a rompler.

Followup on the big revision of GA fitness functions being wired up backwards: I think it helped, but didn't turn out to be an overwhelming difference. Happy to run with the small improvement, it'll add up over time. And another thing I added, will allow for a new concept (dual mono 6x6)

Argh, tough going. I'm scrambling to get the reverb thing working better and implement a new idea. While also getting the 'measure with meter' list up to a cool 1,800 tracks to do, of which I've done three. Idea for THAT which I don't think I can implement. Then discover that I've had a thing in…

that I'd better nap, meaning that I was literally asleep at the time that a cool person in game dev sat there expecting me to show up and dropped me a note 20 minutes in, giving up on me. I'm better than this, usually. When I'm not pushing so hard. This is my fault.

I've apologized, all I can do. I don't know if I can dial back the intensity of the work. It's not enough, you see. I'm not going to be able to do some of the things I need, and I'm hitting limits in other ways. But right now the day's over and I'm making dinner and will sleep.

the reverb gen hooked up BACKWARD and I've been getting away with the GA seeking worse reverbs using a certain metric, and never noticed. And implementing the new idea but don't know yet if it'll help… and then discover I've missed a meeting I cared about. Because I was up at 3 working and decided…

All of my THIS, David, plus I would observe that what good are you going to be if it doesn't hold your interest? Anything awesome and sudden _I_ have is because of years or decades of caring intensely about the thing and being unable to crack it. Best just care, in the face of all this. As you do :)

When you read stuff like: “Yes, AI was used to speed up the work”, it often means the whole thing went from: “I wouldn’t know where to begin” to “Look what I made” in a few days.

Followup on the making my reverb generator woke: It worked, absurdly ridiculously well, especially for small rooms. Time to see where we can take this. The new IntoTheMatrix is several times better sounding in its output than any previous one. <3
