you can really read whatever you want. just read slowly, just start with fun and challenging and you can get the habit back. for myself I treat reading not only as a fun hobby but a responsability towards my brain.

Among other things, this post does a great job of disentangling the classic notion of "AI" — how can we use computers to solve problems in smarter and more efficient ways? — from what LLMs are, and do

New Post: Why I Love AI Next month it'll be twenty years since I went to university, learned to program, and studied AI. I wrote about why I loved it, why I still love it, and why, unfortunately, it no longer exists. www.possibilityspace.org/blog/posts/i...

So excited to have these gorgeous creatures designed by @alaflora.net ! They came beautifully packaged too, with hand-drawn instructions. I'm totally enamoured ❤️!

whenever eu adopts the authoritarian scan-your-face-give-us-your-id im gonna have enough time to make sign off "go to my website" posts on affected platforms. *personally* i am gonna be cooked when they come for domain registrations or any forms of hosting *collectively* we've long been cooked

my pet belief is that encouraging children to create pseudonymous avatars for themselves should be part of "how to be healthy online" early education. be a sparkledog until you're old enough to decide otherwise. but introduced via play so it feels like personal choice to the kids?

once again, furries got to the correct answer before anyone else figured out the question

as in make drawings of your vampire self in class ofc the internet a dead husk so its not like anything matters anymore

If you can prompt AI, you can prompt the artist. The latter can also figure out what you mean.

strawman: "erm actually godzilla isn't a dinosaur" me: "erm actually godzilla is a dinosaur in the classic 1954 film Godzilla"

regularly googling my name bc im checking if the changes i make to my website get indexed. anyway: i switched from "web" to "all" tab and for the first time ever read an ai summary of myself. apparently i am famous in the paleoart community for my heavily researched dinosaur illustrations

it was very respectful in its first description; i switched between tabs back and forth again and now it misgenders me, says my name is my "online alias". its absolutely bonkers to generate a new one every time i click into that tab; haven't even intentionally refreshed page

I resent the notion that people who use hyphens where en or em dashes would be more appropriate deserve a greater assumption of authenticity than those of us who know how and when to use them, and how to insert special characters. I do not blame AI tools for stealing because they lack moral agency.

When a human author has written a work, when there’s a unifying intelligence behind it, it’s easy for an experienced editor to work out what the problem is, get a sense of what the author is trying to do, and (often) see how it could be fixed.

spell-checkers are entirely different because it's just a program telling you it doesn't have a word in its dictionary and then you can decide you did mean a different word actually, or ignore it

I always see nonpartisan, righteous anger at public art. Everyone loves to hate a concrete blob bought with taxpayer money, what's it even meant to be etc. My hot take: art funding is good and there's no benign policy for keeping out 'bad' art. You really just gotta fund it until a good one happens
