I have had a checkered career in the technology industry, where I have spent most of my time explaining complex concepts to people in ways that they can put them to practical use. Now that I am more or less retired, I still try to explain things.

Ever wonder why politicians never actually do anything to support apprenticeship programs and community colleges? Maybe it's because none of them actually understand how they work. I'm a proud community college grad and apprenticeship instructor. I'm going to DC to shake that up.

Americans want a government that we can trust. Central to this is having confidence that EVERYONE is paying their fair share of the costs of the government programs. The IRS must be fully funded. It's the only government spending that INCREASES revenues!

Cameron 🇺🇸🗽🦅@cameroncorduroy.bsky.social

did you know the IRS hasn't actually measured tax evasion in over a decade? due to lack of budget and workforce, the IRS is incapable of performing the random audits necessary to estimate tax evasion they've been forced to reuse the same numbers from 2016

President Trump: Remove the restrictions on StarLink and StarShield IMMEDIATELY! You profess to have the power to do this, so DO IT! We must not abandon Ukraine and its people.

This is what passes as "justice" in our country now. Our "king" will now decide which favors he will choose to bestow upon his subjects. This is NOT my United States of America.

Trump on Camp Lejeune water contamination claims: "If we win the House and Senate, I am directing the Department of Justice to settle all remaining legitimate claims as soon as possible ... if we don't win, there's no money."

Why would a U.S. veteran vote for ANY Republican in this mid-term election? It would seem that President Trump and Secretary Hegseth are doing their very best to drive away those votes.

Those who do not worship any god or gods can also be people of faith, such as the faith in the good of every person. It's not just about religion; it's about living your values, whatever they might be.

Abdul El-Sayed@abdulelsayed.bsky.social

As a man of faith, I pray every day. Faith is a thing there’s just too little of in Washington.

West Texas crude oil is now $103 a barrel, up 2.4% just today. I hope that everyone in New England and along the US/Canadian border sends President Trump a thank-you note when you get your next heating bill....

In the unlikely event (based on other federal claims about illegal voters) that all 20K voters on the list are illegally registered, that amounts to less than 0.09% of CA's 23 million voters. There is no way that this could influence the outcome of ANY election.

Marc Elias@marcelias.bsky.social

The Trump administration launched a sweeping operation in California Monday, arresting 11 people and charging 28 lawful permanent residents with election and immigration-related crimes as it seeks to bolster a lawsuit targeting more than 20,000 voters. www.democracydocket.com/news-alerts/...

Mother Jones@motherjones.com

Months of fears around the use of armed immigration enforcement to affect national elections appear to be coming to fruition. Federal authorities announced the arrest in California of at least 11 people and charges against 28, alleging they registered to vote as noncitizens.

I swear, President Trump looks at a Mercator Projection map (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercato...) and sees that Russia is SOOO much bigger than the U.S. (It's the same problem that makes him think that Greenland is much bigger than it is.) For President Trump, size always matters most.

Steven Beschloss@stevenbeschloss.bsky.social

The US economy is about 12 times larger than the Russian economy and per capita output is six times larger. CA, NY and TX surpass Russian output. It's a minor economic country. But Trump only wants to match the scale of theft and dictatorial, oligarchic rule of Putin, the people be damned.

I do not believe ANY statement by President Trump or anyone in his Administration until it is proven to me by an independent source. President Trump and his Administration have ZERO credibility with me, and I expect a large portion of U.S. residents share that skepticism.

The answer is SIX. Inflation has outpaced wage growth for 6 consecutive months.

Police? Fire? Roads that deliver food to your stores and take you to your healthcare services? Educated employees who keep the lights on and your house warm and do a thousand things that you could not do without? This is the epitome of ignorant selfishness.

“I should only pay taxes for things I use” is a fun precept to adopt after you’ve stopped using services that were funded by the full tax base — you would have needed to pay much much more when your kids were in school if seniors hadn’t been pitching in with property taxes back then!

@cnn.com should be totally ashamed of this characterization. Watch the video for yourself. It is not a "heated exchange". If there was any heat in the room, it was from Tommy's near-fatal blushing after being schooled so calmly and expertly.

Elon Musk is a citizen of Canada. Why would we let a Canadian influence any U.S. policy? Elon Musk is a citizen of South Africa. Why would we let a South African citizen influence any U.S. policy? Oh, and Musk is a U.S. citizen who apparently lied about his student visa to stay in this country.

“He’s far too involved in everything we do.” @karaswisher.bsky.social and @profgalloway.com raise concerns about Elon Musk’s outsized influence on U.S. policy toward Ukraine, amid new restrictions on its Starshield access.

I've got way too much to read these days and I can't possibly keep up. But this piece by @sykescharlie.bsky.social is well worth the few minutes it takes. It's a great summary and an important analysis.

On Earth 2.0, this story would end a presidency. But even in our timeline, Donald Trump’s cowardly back-stab of the Ukrainians was an act of historic perfidy. charliesykes.substack.com/p/trumpworld...

Anyone who doesn't plan for the possibility of a "national emergency" and martial law is being naive, in my estimation. We must be prepared to defend our elections, our Constitution, the rule of law, and our country, against all enemies, foreign and domestic. ❌❌❌ STOP THE COUP! ❌❌❌

David Pakman@davidpakman.bsky.social

A report from Axios explains that, in a final act of desperation over the forthcoming brutal losses Republicans are going to take, they are openly discussing “what about martial law?” Absolute lunatics.

Our "democracy" is being led by President Trump who has nothing but disdain for the Constitution and the rule of law, unless he can twist them to his advantage. This would not be possible without his enablers, including Congressional Republicans. Our "democracy" is not fine.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Q: Do you think our democracy is under attack? SUSAN COLLINS: I think our democracy will be just fine

Medicare for All cannot be "free health insurance for all". Even Medicare is not free. Recipients (like me) paid into the system -- it is insurance -- throughout our working lives. And when we start getting coverage, we still have to pay a monthly premium. And most people buy extra insurance, too.

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

"Whatever the merits of an idealized single-payer system, it’s possible we could get a monkey’s paw version: A compromised system designed to reconcile irreconcilable public desires in the stupidest and most self-destructive manner possible."

Yes, the polls can be wrong. Canvassing voters accurately ahead of an election has become difficult in the extreme. But remember that when the polls are wrong, they can be wrong in either direction! Many reasons for hope. Zero reasons for complacency.

I acknowledge that the stock market is not the same thing as the economy, but since the start of August, the Dow Jones Industrials are down by 5%, I believe. That's in less than three months. Heck of a job, Donny! You rich buddies must be so pleased!

President Trump and his enablers are proud to trumpet their contempt for our Constitution and the rule of law. There MUST be consequences. I believe that most of all, Americans want a government that we can trust. ❌❌❌ STOP THE COUP! ❌❌❌

Trump: "I didn't go to Congress. Remember Sleepy Joe? 'Oh, if they would give me approval in Congress!' You're not gonna get approval. You just do it. You're the president."

Extrajudicial murder in international waters without ANY evidence is a crime. A boat with 5 engines won't be enough for President Trump to outrun the consequences of his repeated actions.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump gloats over killing boaters in the area of the Caribbean: "They think a boat with 5 engines on it that's going 75 miles an hour is fast, but it's not fast compared to a missile"

Fact check: FALSE No, President Trump. You have to invoke national security to apply the fig leaf that the Supreme Court decided to give you in order to cover up your blatantly illegal actions. Apparently, you don't need to do anything to satisfy the Republican Senators.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump on his arch: "It's got a military component. Everything has a military component nowadays. I have to do that to satisfy my senators."

Does Hegseth even KNOW how Congress works? When the Senate Majority Leader says publicly and often that he sees no path for Reconciliation 3, what the heck does this genius Hegseth think will change that after the midterms? (And whose fault is it that our military needs rebuilding?)

The Bulwark@thebulwark.com

Hegseth: “We will ensure regardless of what happens in the midterms…that [the] reconciliation bill…fills up what this department needs in order for the president to ensure that we reestablish deterrence and rebuild the military around the world.”

Everything is connected. This reporting by Pennsylvania Capital-Star shows how President Trump's Administration has knee-capped the development of hydrogen in Pennsylvana and other states. /1

It's also a story about discouraging solar and wind energy as a sustainable energy source, and how hydrogen could play a role in creating fertilizer for farmers and cleaner steel production (which is still important for Pennsylvania). /2

Dear President Trump, Thank you for the $90 "refund" that I just got from Social Security. I want you to know that I have put it all to good use, which is what you said you wanted me to do. /1

Is anyone keeping score? In the past weekend alone: - President Trump ignored the courts and the law and tore down 500 of the people's trees. - President Trump ignored the law and made a deal with Putin for Russian diesel. - President Trump ignored a court order and continued illegal TV ads.

More than affordability, I believe that Americans want a government that we can trust. President Trump's endless contempt for the Constitution and the rule of law is doing generational damage to our country, and the Congressional Republicans have done NOTHING to prevent it. ❌❌❌ STOP THE COUP! ❌❌❌

Don't tell Senator Collins this, but the closest place in the Lower 48 States to Iran is actually Maine, not California. The 5,100 mile route goes over Turkey, Ukraine, Sweden, and Canada before striking Maine.

To the contrary, I believe that it can do great harm. Why would we want to broadcast video of our military in uniform shooting an unarmed individual? What message will this send to our international allies and adversaries? It does not demonstrate bravery or might or any other positive attribute. /3

And what parent, grandparent, or other person would think that this is something that our children should see? Because if it is on the Internet, children will see it. /4

But I can’t see how anyone thinks that live streaming a military firing squad execution is a good idea. I understand and approve that citizens must have the right to witness such an event, but I think that broadcasting it is barbaric and serves no good purpose. /2
