Absolutely ridiculous to frame it as a heated exchange when it was civil debate but not surprised CNN wants to use that click bait line for the haters to grasp on to. AES did nothing more than give an Islamophobic choad a civics lesson. He did make "Tommy" look the part of the fool though.

I just watched what definitely wasn't in any way a heated exchange, but was, instead, a very thoughtful back and forth about why this headline in itself is implicitly suggesting anyone who isn't Christian has dual loyalty. Did CNN run headlines like this about JFK too?

CNN it was not heated at all. What an awful read on a perfectly answered attack. Tommy sit down you’re a Christian Nationalist. Perhaps you could try and actually report news like how taxpayers paid for a Tesla kick flip and some racist trillionaire got credit.

SCOOP: 'Tommy' from the now-viral exchange with Abdul El-Sayed is Thomas Teepell, a former staffer for Republican Senator Josh Hawley with close ties to Christian Nationalist Sean Feucht. He's the son of a former Bobby Jindal staffer whose consultant work was instrumental in getting Hawley elected.

Can’t wait for the ellisons to shit can you and replace you with ai. Both are unwatchable bs. Can’t believe you guys actually used to do good reporting

If anything is heated, I think what gets me heated is that "Tommy" is a white supremacist, affiliated with Christian Nationalist white supremacists, but this isn't reported as part of the story by you folks @cnn.com

Heated exchange? Probably one of the most civil and reflected (political) replies to an obvious heckler I’ve ever seen & heard, but judge for your self:

Abdul El-Sayed@abdulelsayed.bsky.social

This is Tommy. Tommy had a question about my allegiances. Listen to the end to hear about his.

To be fair the mainstream media probably doesn’t know the difference anymore, all they can see is the same shit we’ve been putting up with with T so they can’t recognize a calm, kind and measured response.

In contrast: President Trump ridiculed woman who protested his speech at a political rally in Ohio, after the heckler was physically assaulted. The woman, who was wearing a “Release the Epstein Files” shirt, was punched in the face while rallygoers cheered on assault with chants of “USA.”

This headline and the way the article glosses over what was a masterclass in handling a troll is meant to level the playing field and keep the horse race going. “Tommy” was quickly found out to be an operative. Wonder if they would update that article and fix that headline. Won’t hold my breath.

Heated? I found it was measured and respectful. However a proper journalist has found that “Tommy” was a republican plant who was shamed into skulking away. Unlike Trump and his thug followers, who beat up anyone who dares object, El- Sayed was articulate and showed respect for your constitution

Your headline is a complete mischaracterization of what happened in this exchange. He very calmly schooled a White Christian Nationalist on the 1st Amendment’s Free Exercise clause. El-Sayed never lost his cool. Maybe Tommy was seething when he left because he’d been made a fool.

@cnn.com should be totally ashamed of this characterization. Watch the video for yourself. It is not a "heated exchange". If there was any heat in the room, it was from Tommy's near-fatal blushing after being schooled so calmly and expertly.

Oh, fuck off with this headline Some weak minded fool tried to get some sort of "gotcha" moment out of AES and instead he gave an answer that is more patriotic than said fool will ever be

Shameful, CNN. I know your staffers and leadership won't read this, but you should be ASHAMED Your entire profession exists because of the ideals of this country, which you are burying with this Islamophobic framing. Who does this serve? It's not America

@cnn here’s the full video clip - Tommy, the little Christo-fascist slinks away - he isn’t punched out or thrown out like he would be at a Nazi Trump rally, he just slinks out like the fucking Nazi coward he is after being schooled by the American. Watch to the end. bsky.app/profile/abdu...

does it ever get old, lying for your corporate overlords? is the paycheck big enough that you can ignore your complete lack of ethics?

Did you actually watch the video? Your framing of the exchange is completely offpoint. Really disappointing to see a once great media organisation jostle with Fox 'News' to occupy the bottom.

I can't really add anything to what's been said about how racist-aligned and stupid this coverage is, but I think we may be moving to one of the highest ratios I've seen for CNN. Well done as you fully embrace your role as fascist-enablers.

Could you do us all a solid and do real reporting, not the inflammatory bullshit? bsky.app/profile/mari...

Sounds like the real question should be - does Mike Rogers disavow Confederate Nationalists like Tommy Teepell? I know Ellison signs the checks, but DO BETTER, CNN! @abdulelsayed.bsky.social @mlive.com bsky.app/profile/mari...

That was the most polite, respectful, and articulate and probing interaction between a candidate and constituent - a clear white nationalist and bigot - I've seen. Nothing heated. In fact, all CNN panels could take a lesson. If you want to compare to "heated", look to Rep Andy Harris or the P/VP.

Genuinely, like serious question, are you guys not embarrassed having to write that headline? Like not even just a little bit?

Here's an alternate headline: El-Sayed wards off Islamophobic remarks Because that's exactly what it fucking is.

Heated? Moderately tense, maybe, because of the inherent Islamaphobia Tommy wasn't willing to own - but far from heated. It was civil and reasonable. Tommy even slunk away with his tail between his legs in a quiet fashion.

It wasn't heated at all. "Tommy" was basically trolling Abdul plus refusing to answer Abdul's perfectly reasonable question. Tommy is a bigot. Abdul was having a calm discussion with him which he refused to engage in.

Heated? Of all the ways this exchange could have been reported heated is not one of them. This is why I no longer watch CNN

This is a completely bullshit articulation of what went down. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. Of course, there's a reason I've not watched CNN since the 2008 Primaries: y'all ain't shit.

The bigotry that would even provoke such a stupid accusation is actually the news here. You need to fix this incredibly biased headline. When will someone ask Mehmet Oz to disavow the Muslim Brotherhood?

What an incredibly distorted headline. You’re centralizing the narrative of that young man who was so disrespectful. And you’re minimizing what was so powerful, the highlighting that the Constitution is what we owe loyalty to, not any particular religion.

Is that REALLY an appropriate headline? Did you even WATCH the exchange? The whole point was that it was a bloody stupid question asked by a highly partisan individual with connections to the Republican Party, and El-Sayed answered it perfectly by asking whether the questioner had disavowed the...

... Muslim Brotherhood to underscore the inherent racism - ie., what's so special about me that somehow that's my job any more than yours. To validate the question by headlining the answer is incompetent journalism, if not itself racist.

Has CNN written felt the need to write a headline about how any other senate candidates aren't members of the Muslim brotherhood? No? Gee I wonder why they felt like this was news? Almost as if CNN is making the exact same Islamophobic assumption Tommy made.

CNN, what the FUCK are you people doing? I ask that rhetorically, because we know that you are framing every story about Abdul El-Sayed with Establishment, Conservative, Corporate Democrat & Republican biases meant to tear down anyone who does not uphold the current Late Stage Capitalist status quo.

@cnn.com - This is a piss poor take on the whole exchange. El-Sayed put the Constitution before his religion urging the Christian rabble rouser to do the same. He added that he is not pushing his Muslim religion on others. Can the young man say the same about his religion?

OMG, CNN's allegiance to Dump is so obvious. It wasn't a heated exchange. It was a teaching moment and El-Sayed held a master class.

Weirdly worded headline bro. Maybe you should watch tge exchange with the Josh Hawley planted agitator. Fuck...I'm Canadian and I see the whole picture. SMH
