On the positive side: looks like Hubley has been bested by Erin Coffin. Chianello in Kitchissippi taking Jeff’s seat; Devine ahead in Knoxdale-Merivale despite an ugly race. Luloff hitting Wendy’s tonight!

There are currently 6 track which are played at random: The Specials - A Message To You Rudy Madness - One Step Beyond The Specials - Ghost Town Rancid - Time Bomb Bosstones - The Impression That I Get Goldfinger - Superman I have a 1GB SD card so tell me your ska favourites and I'll load 'em up!

Why? Why not - my line is open for any auto manufacturers who wish to license this system for future products. Porsche - are you listening [to ska]?

Not pictured: simple circuit with an opto coupler to isolate the Pico from the 12V system/switch in the car and skipped a bunch of swearing and cursing trying to figure out what format/bitrate to use to encode the MP3s in ffmpeg (64kbps mono) + other vagaries of software and hardware development.

There's a system diagnostic to set the output volume (press & hold button for 5 seconds and a test tone plays, tap button to increase the volume level in 5% increments, at 100% it rolls around to 5% again.) There's also a 'long press' feature but I haven't figured out what to do with that yet.

But to me, I see THE SKA BUTTON! So I spent a bit of the weekend building the brains behind this: 1. Pi Pico (this one has a CAN bus logger for other Volkswagen reasons, but can serve double duty) 2. SD card reader (again, already in place for the logging) 3. Baby DAC and amp

4. Small speaker (wiring into car audio system is a headache - mainly because of EMI and input switching seemed to complicated for this type of bullshitery) Amazingly, I wired/soldered all this up and it worked the first time which is impressive for me. Shown here in test mode sans button.

Thanks to global crapmongers you can buy these for cheap (I think I paid $6). I picked one up along with a wireless charger and some other bits to replace the poverty buttons with some more 'useful' features.

Municipal Election Day. I hope we crack 30% participation so more than 15% of the population actually decides who runs this joint. Go Leiper!

But as Ottawa’s transit system teeters on a precipice, our infrastructure is crumbling, road deaths at a 10 year high, and homelessness and affordability top list of concerns all Sutcliffe can offer is the same, tired, low-tax screed that got us here after spending his term working for developers.

With a spoiler candidate like Saravanamuttoo on the ballot there’s a good chance we get “more of the same”, and I’m not sure there will be much left with four more years of Sutcliffe.

Based strictly on his own campaign, Sutcliffe seems aware of the terrible job he’s done over the last four years as he has made many promises to fix things he himself has actively made worse on the last four years.

Hey there, Ward 9! Let's end this campaign on a high note, with a great turnout at the polls. Municipal government has a massive impact on life in our city, so make your voice heard. It's been a fantastic campaign, now it's up to the voters. Tomorrow, I'm asking you to Vote Sean Devine for Ward 9!

“Proven can deliver” money to private sports teams form public land; low taxes while our infra crumbles; new ways to (cut) bus service and make transit worse; promises to plant 1m trees (that didn’t happen) while destroying farmland, making storm impacts worse. We can’t afford 4 more years of Mark

I have a plan, I’ve proven I can deliver, and I’m ready to do it again. #24in48

The Alberta referendum has only reinforced my opinion that 25-30% of the population are incorrigible idiots.

My general experience with AI is that it can be a useful force multiplier for certain types of tasks when used by somebody with domain experience with careful limits and review. However, in practice, it is a Dunning-Kruger machine wielded by the loudest, most obnoxious people in existence.
