Additional question related to my recent one #WritingCommunity #WriteSky What is the industry standard/legal requirement for providing contracts to any contributors to a zine for things such as establishing first publication and/or exclusive publication rights?

Question for the #WritingCommunity #WriteSky Is there any legality irt disclosing that a publication calling for submissions has the intent to be for profit when there is no communication to contributors irt compensation or lack thereof?

#WIPSnips - Reverie of the Bell aka "I woke up in a story my friends made me hate because the MC has my dead name so I don't have a clue what's happening" From a side project I write in discord when I'm bored (expect typos). No rattle, but something rattling and also bells ringing

The #WIPSnips word for October 23rd is "rattle" #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

Pro tip: if someone tells you the only reason they think your (published) work might not be genAI is because of how many punctuation/grammar errors are in it and your only response is "it's not genAI" Well I don't care if it is or isn't now, it really shows you don't care about your work's quality

the convo essentially: "Only closed doors selling my book. sick of gatekeeping" "want crit?" "sure" "It has errors on every page/is poorly written. might be why publishers don't want it" "i dont need a publisher :)" "also if not for the errors i'd think it's genAI" "it's not genAI how dare you >("

Feat @pythonmelon.bsky.social my overly polite spouse who received this DM unprompted Like. Why say things like this and then say "i don't want a publisher" and only get offended when someone says your work reads like genAI (not even that it IS) while ignoring every other critique you were offered?

Add'l context: This person kept going on about how publishers "gatekeep good work" and won't publish their stuff. It'd be different if they only self-published as a hobby/for fun. But they want to be professional yet ignored every crit they asked for EXCEPT the genAI comp at the end of the convo

And the book in question is available on amazon. People can read the sample. This is their example of what they want professionally published. Yet they say they want to harass publishers for "gatekeeping good art" while claiming "i don't want a publisher"

I keep seeing posts complaining that the internet sucks now. "It didn't used to be like this! You used to be able to find information. It's just a store now, but it used to be a library." Skill issue, bro. The internet doesn't suck. You suck at research. But don't worry. I'm here to help. 🧵

"Oh boy i can't wait to sleep in today after going to bed at 1:30 am after hosting a party but falling asleep at 2:30 due to insomnia" i dream seconds before my body decides actually it's time to get up before 8:30 on a sunday because my subconscious has a wicked sense of humor

Happy witch wednesday on a thursday my spouse woke me up to tell me that they found random animal organs across the street while walking our dog. The spirit that leaves Victor dead things as gifts must know they've been feeling unwell lately

You ever wanted to see someone write 50k words of cohesive and emotionally resonant metafiction in one to two weeks?

DD Ward ..."Probably not a Vampire."@ddwardiswriting.bsky.social

Okay folks of the #WritersCommunity, I have an interesting indie marketing prompt challenge... Give us your elevator pitch, for yourself! What is your author brand? How would you sell yourself?

I got a comment from someone on an unfinished fic saying how much they'd want to see it finished so I finished it and I guess I wrote too fast for them that I think they suspect I used AI like no dude I'm skilled enough to write 50k words in a week if motivated enough

like idk if they even read the chapters i think they just saw that it posted within a month and were like "dude i didn't think you'd update this fast 💔" like sorry if other writers have burnt you with their skill issues but that ain't me I'm *good* at writing

guy acts like I'm incapable of being serious and treats everything I say like an invite to yes-and and it's gotten so bad that I want to ask him to stop reading the story I'm writing since he's clearly expecting a comedy and not going to handle the fact it's a tragedy with a comedic veneer well

The up-and-coming horror series, Red Ghost Magazine, is seeking submissions to its first ever quarterly release! We’re looking for stories, comics, poetry and art of creatures and cryptids, things that lurch through the dark from deep in the mountains to the most shadowy recesses of your own mind 🧵

Was talking character dynamics with the spouse last night and realized Seemore decided to take Inkwell's entire existence as a word challenge and Inkwell decided that was hot but can't admit that if he wants Seemore to keep it up.
