whenever i fly from SFO to literally anywhere else i get off the plane and im like oh thank god no one here is trying to sell me enterprise subscriptions to a business automation and AI solutions company that builds custom agents for real time customer support

the genius of nathan fielder is that he's so fucking funny and yet comedy is actually secondary to the greater points he makes about how people How We Interact With People As A Society

I can't stop thinking about 'You Can See Everything'. Great movies come out every year. This isn't just a great film, it's historically significant.

i worry that the rise of convenience tech + chatbots will make people feel even more averse to simply Interacting With People (i'm guilty of this -- would much rather place an online takeout order than call the restaurant), and i think it'll be interesting to see how NF's awkward cringe humor ages

... the answer is to not use platforms like Insta, and bring communities to social media built on open protocols, such as atproto or ActivityPub, where the account holder has way more control.

sometimes i ask AI to do things OUT OF CURIOSITY BECAUSE IM A JOURNALIST COVERING AI and i asked it what i should ask the bluesky folks about when i interview them and it told me to ask about jack dorsey’s involvement

anyway this is why my research tactic of “every once in a while see if AI is capable of doing my job” is affirming bc it cannot do my job

i want to make it extra clear that i do not actually use AI to help me come up with interview questions or write anything this is purely a “i write about these chatbots so i should know what it can and can’t do” thing

so i was like claude you dunce, he hasn’t been involved in a long time, and claude was like sowwy my knowledge cut off is jan 2025 👉👈🥺 and i was like ok he stepped down in 2024 tho

i'm excited to root for the brewers, my favorite baseball team that i have been rooting for this whole time

i'm glad that my favorite team that i have always loved, the chicago white sox, is doing well so far

was told slant ever Indie Famous or was it just that at one point in the first half of the 2010s i lived in a one mile radius of the myrtle bway jmz stop

they have a new album out and they're touring and i'm like hell yeah i fucking loved that band like 10 years ago but haven't listened to them in forever but the venue they're playing is like, a quarter of the size of where they were playing 10 years ago??? curious!

a vendor at an art fair complimented my chai necklace and she was like "i should wear mine more, if they want to kill me then kill me!!" and then she remembered she was supposed to be selling me stuff and was like fuck sorry i got real intense there and then i didn't buy anything bc it was expensive

on one hand i have sympathy for people who don't feel comfortable wearing jewish symbols right now* but on the hand my dentist thought my chai was a tooth, so, just wear it man even if someone hates jews they'll think it's a pi symbol and you really love math

* annoying disclaimer that i am referring to the general rise in antisemitism that comes from people thinking all jews endorse the actions of the israeli govt, not the rise in expressions of palestinian solidarity, which is not antisemitism

when tech bros say stuff like this it reminds me of when i was like 10 and looking at shit online about How To Write Good and would see stuff like "write the book you wish existed in the world" and i'd be like "i'm gonna write a book about softball players with super powers"

maybe i'm old fashion but the coolest thing about video games is being taken to new worlds that i hadn't thought up and experiencing something exciting that the artists behind the game want to show me

when i was a kid i also wrote a story about a girl with red hair named lily who could do magic and it was Extremely Not A Harry Potter Rip Off, Do Not Worry About It
