Probably worth noting that I have no rational basis for my fear that I’ll forget about the 🤬 fasting labs. I never have before. And yet. Every time.

Fasting labs tomorrow. As always, I worry that I’ll forget and have a snack overnight or already be eating breakfast before I remember. So I made myself a todo item to not eat breakfast before 7:15. Unfortunately, that doesn’t really work for overnight bc idk when I might wake up. 🤞 I remember.

I think it’s the wish fulfillment aspect that I like to come back to? There are eleventy billion things over which I have no control & the outcomes could be super bad and so a story about someone in a dire situation getting an awesome way out of their/the world’s problems is super attractive.

Idk who I thought I was kidding besides myself. It’s Kaiju Preservation Society. Total comfort read that stands up to multiple re-reads.

Argh. Cannot focus. Stuff that’s come into the library recently that’s available doesn’t look interesting; stuff I want will be on hold for minimum of 6 more weeks; now that I’ve gotten out of the habit of buying books (yay Libby), there’s none I’m willing to pay for & don’t want a re-read.

Now I think it might be the charger itself. Which is no less expensive to replace than the batteries. It keeps turning off after a few minutes. But if I pull the battery out & put it back, then it restarts. wtf. I’ve done a little looking online, but so far the repair options don’t look great.

This Greg Bear book even has a dude who says shit like “Prithee, fair maid, why?” The character isn’t described as having a neckbeard & fedora, but I think we all know what the author saw in his mind’s eye. And: not written like an asshole. FFS. This book.

Hm. Wonder if the battery issue is actually a outlet extension tower problem? Brought the battery that didn’t seem to want to finish charging and it did. Maybe I just mis-read the charger while in the garage? Idk. One has a full charge now at least so I can start again tomorrow. 🤞 for both.

That was weird. I guess the main portion of the tree being cut down must have finally fallen. _Something_ made an incredibly loud boom and shook our house. I just double-checked nothing had fallen on us it was so strong. And idk where the work is even happening! Not in sight.

Concerned the batteries for the string trimmer are wearing out. The one I used today had been siting in the charger. It should have been full and lasted longer than it did. Now one that was dead when I started is still charging & it’s been hours.

It’s a pretty nice day outside and I’d been thinking I might go hang out now that the deck is in order again. However, a near neighbor has someone doing work w/a chainsaw and turns out that when it’s just one chainsaw, it’s really annoying. And it’s been most of the day.

I’d say the logic here is “you’re not voting for us anyway, so fuck off and die” except they’ve been doing everything they can to pollute us all to death this whole administration.

The New York Times@nytimes.com

Breaking News: The Trump administration is set to relax rules restricting the emission of methane, a gas considered to be a “super pollutant.”

Fresh bread baked & it did not require parchment paper so the sides and ends came out a bit smoother. May not have needed the baking spray either. I’ll have to get brave & see if it’s truly non-stick on the next loaf. Chicken broth done and cooling. It will go in the lentil soup at dinner! Yay!

I just wish I had a reliable way to compost the chicken bones (and other meat products) Ran the idea of worm bin past B once and woo he was a hard no on that one. Said he’d never sleep again if he knew there was a big box of worms nearby. And they’d need to come into the garage if it was cold, so.

My glasses are so smeared with sweat I can barely see but I hate washing them bc the dish soap they need is v hard on my hands (no gloves bc hands are filthy too). So I’ll do the litterboxes first even if I can’t see what I’m scooping. Plus, gotta wash after boxes anyway. 🤬🤬🤬 dry hands.

Battery died and the other battery had no charge so I’m down for the day. Did not reach the bottleneck, but I’m just going to have to be satisfied with the progress I did make.

New net is nice and v sturdy. I got a couple scoops of debris. It’s still so hard to see though & I don’t seem to have B’s feel for finding the debris w/o being able to see what I’m doing. Time to stop futzing with that and do the string trimming which I can be more effective at on my own.

Latino early voting is up 2-3 times over 2022 depending on the state. We haven’t seen any ICE enforcement activity at or near early voting locations

Today’s goal is to bag the leaves from the last round in the pool; so can go in the compost bin thankfully, and then take the string trimmer to the path to the back yard so we can more easily get the wheelbarrow around.

The string trimming needed doing before the storm bc I’d let things go for a host of reasons including “but I don’t want to do that” so the upside I guess is that we’re beginning to reach a mix of storm debris & pre-existing weeds / overgrowth rather than only storm debris.

I just have to get the yard waste bins down & emptied this week. Paper bags are challenging to work with, rip from sticks & eventually it will rain again. In fact, we’re going to have to tarp them this weekend just in case.

Chicken broth started and now simmering away, another loaf of bread rising and kitchen table cleaned (how does it get so gross so fast?). Now I’m just waiting for the new skimmer net. And the 15 min sunscreen wait.

I am ridiculously excited for this new net. It claims it’s self healing and it’s a double layer mesh so maybe it’ll cope better than the last one.

Well ok. It might have been a warbler. I got so excited I didn’t get a photo. May have been a more green-yellow. Idk. I put out the tiny black seeds in a mesh sock. Fingers crossed.

It’s for the best that Sweetie’s shivering last night when I picked her up to take her to give her medicine was not a fever. But FFS knowing I make my cat so unhappy she shivers is not great. She has to have the medicine tho, so it’s not like I can stop. Hanging my head in sadness.

The debris haulers are these jointed trucks with a big claw in the front half, along, I assume, with room to dump collected debris & then a back half presumably just for debris. The back half looks _a lot_ like a Jawa transport.

Yeesh. Neighborhood streets down to one lane w/no visibility bc of debris piles and assholes just barrel down the road like it’s all fine. Then larger roads are blocked/slowed by debris removal & flaggers acting according to physics of their own. Attempting to channel patience.

FYI, if highly caffeinated, low/no sugar energy drinks are your thing, the Celsius Mango Passionfruit is really good. Kiwi Guava had been my favorite, but I think we’ve got a new winner.

Well. Sweetie did not enjoy getting her shots and she made sure I didn’t either. At least she didn’t break the skin and the exam room had a big bottle of spray antiseptic. I just hope the antibiotic helps with her skin.

Ok. Time to get Sweetie into a carrier for an arthritis shot and an antibiotic shot for her skin. When I picked her up last night to give her her medicine, she was shivering. Cd be she hates the meds that much, but jic it’s a fever, antibiotics ahoy.

So about a month ago I got a very stern past due notice from the allergist’s office bc they took so long to bill me for $5 that by the time I got it, it was past due. Got another $5 bill and tried to pay online as they say you can and…they won’t accept payments of less than $10. 🤬

A great egret decided to hunt amidst a cluster of swamp marigold. Here's a closeup of it looking at the water rather intently while surrounded by yellow blossoms. #birds

My attempt to recreate those tasty prepackaged Publix spinach & bacon salads worked pretty well. The dressing I picked is noticeably sweeter than what they use so I won’t be buying this brand again. Still; it’s not too bad.

And now “illegal alien”. FFS Bear. It doesn’t even matter. You could have just written “farm worker”. Grr. This is after an incidence of “men and females”. This book is turning into a hate read.
