I guess someone's mad about getting picked last.

New: Mayor Zohran Mamdani and a group of his friends have been secretly using the NYPD Police Academy’s gymnasium in Queens to play pickup basketball — scrambling some operations at the facility. w/ @grahamrayman.bsky.social & Joe Anuta www.politico.com/news/2026/10...

It’s been awhile since I watched an actual speech and not just clips (ty @atrupar.com!) but Trump seems markedly worse than usual. Voice is hoarse, he’s vaguely slurring, sweating up a storm. Obv content is completely unhinged but that per ush.

And now he’s making up a story about going to see a handsome young man at Walter Reed wounded in Iraq in his first term(?) “Father…beautiful…central casting, out of Wall Street…mother, beautiful, too.” And the son? “As good-looking as God can make someone look….”

I would max out donations to the candidate who promised to never send me a text ever again.

NEW: We asked readers if they've been drowning in political texts, calls, mailers and TV ads, and to share pics of what they're getting. Hooo boy, did we get responses! Some fumed its been "harassment." Some won't donate to Dem campaigns ever again. www.huffpost.com/entry/voters...

I guess this is one way to keep young people interested in working for Republicans. "So, yeah, benefits include 401k, FSA, a full pardon, and dental."

In 1990, about 20 million animals a year were euthanized in kill shelters. Today, over half the shelters in the US are designated no-kill and less than 500,000 animals are euthanized.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

the trump administration just fired someone but this time it is… no it is another woman they fired

Britt McHenry is no longer in her role as a press advisor for Trump’s Department of State following a viral video that showed her throwing a drink at a Wizards game, FOS reports She had just joined the admin last month

Walking around St. Paul, so many ICE OUT posters up in people's windows, signs out in yards, houses flying the Minnesota state flag, and businesses with signs prohibiting law enforcement from entering. Except for the weather (which is stunning) Operation Metro Surge could have been last month.

Again, I cannot stress enough what a fuck-up it was for Trump to drag Paxton across the line to win the primary. He made that decision out of pure personal pique over some past comments by Cornyn--criticisms which, at this point, would have made Cornyn seem like his own man and thus keep him viable!

Talarico has run a phenomenal campaign. He's walked a line between ramping up excitement among true-blue liberals outside Texas to raise amount of cash. AND he's projected "commonsense" inside the state. But all due respect, potential blue wave is mostly due to Texas Rs chomping on just desserts.

Trump: "Ramaswamy put up a very powerful Ad about a mother saying that her daughter, Acton, is a liar, and much worse. The Press is trying to get him to 'take down the Ad.' Frankly, anybody whose mother spoke about daughter that way would normally lead to the daughter being precluded from serving"

Am suddenly thinking about the reactionary “why did my child go no-contact!!” movement.

GOP is circling the wagons around Ramaswamy with two lines of messaging. 1. A version of “It’s about ethics in gaming journalism” (ad is about honesty, not calling a child a liar) 2. Only pussies object to calling a child a liar.

Is it more or less worrisome that this seems to have started with “human error”? The search directed people to a page with Talarico’s name and image, but would funnel donations to Colorado Democrat John Hickenlooper.

Will Oremus@willoremus.com

Voters who Googled how to donate to Talarico got an AI answer that led them to give to a different senator. A network of fake news websites seeded messaging about state & local candidates that AI answers picked up on. My story on how the AI midterms are going: www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

wait a democrat is polling +3 in montana’s congressional race and he is a smokejumper that looks like this? why has no one told the thirsty masses?

Someone call Pizza Hut to confirm.

Full quote is worse. Vance: “I am a little bit disgusted when I see Republicans across the country who are whining more about that ad... My message to my fellow elected Republicans: stop whining about an ad.”

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

WOW -- Vance *defends* Vivek's reprehensible ad 👇 Q: Ramaswamy's campaign put out a controversial ad featuring his opponent's mother. Some Republicans are backing away. Do you think it was appropriate? JD VANCE: Well, I'll be honest. Whether the ad was appropriate or not is not really my concern.

Roger Marshall not hiring staffers for your campaign likely means he's relying on Senate staff and funds for the campaign activities. And thinking you can get away with it is Trump-level audacity. But he's now in a race for his political life. I'm guessing he has regrets.

ms.nowWeeks before Election Day, Sen. Roger Marshall’s campaign still had no one on payrollAn MS NOW analysis of FEC filings finds the Kansas Republican reported no payroll last quarter, unlike most Senate incumbents of both parties.

Went to bed thinking about that Amy Acton ad and ultimately unsurprising it is. This is not the endgame of the GOP’s casual degradation of women, it’s a stop along the way. Yet I’m glad we retain the ability to be shocked and disgusted by it. That’s the only foothold for change.

Vivek is a sick, arrogant man, and I hope his horrible actions here will take not only a campaign-ending toll on him but also on the entire Republican ticket and leadership in Ohio, which has shown itself incapable of responsible governing — let alone moral governance.

Really looking forward to the oral history of the Amy Acton ad, because everyone on that campaign *will* want to talk about it. (After they lose.)

From the Oval, Trump just called Somalia a "shithouse" country and said Ilhan Omar "could go to jail." I mean, among other things. This is one of the wilder ones.

He keeps referring to Michele Tafoya as "the Republican woman running in Minnesota," I'm guessing he can't remember her name.

Trump: "It's going to be one of the greatest ballrooms and greatest military complex combinations that's ever been built." This is one time I think he's being modest.
