JMWW 2027 Best of Net Nominees Congrats to our 2027 Best of Net nominees! Thank you everyone for your continued submissions throughout the year.

What a beautiful, soothing, generous piece of work about spaces and distance and story. And more. Loved "Little Boy Lost" by @mattkendrick.bsky.social in @nervetowrite.bsky.social.

Matt Kendrick@mattkendrick.bsky.social

Delighted to have a new piece out in the world today about little boys and big little boys and ships in bottles and rising tides and lighthouses and hot air balloons and mint-chocolate ice cream (which is a thing I definitively can't have!) www.nervetowrite.com/post/little-...

Highly recommend this shortie. Heavy lifting for a tiny vessel.

Kelly, thanks so much for reading and sharing. Thanks also for taking the time to select this line. This is the exact moment, remembered later, that the main character will not be able to forgive herself for.

"When you whisper, Allison, you awake? in your urgent voice, your real voice, I still pretend I’m asleep." This story is one big undercurrent. Read @andreabishop.bsky.social's "We Pretend" in @jmwwjournal.bsky.social. jmwwblog.wordpress.com/2026/04/08/f...

Excited this short piece found the perfect home. Thank so much to my fitness group at @smokelong.bsky.social for helping me revise it and to @jmwwjournal.bsky.social for the edits that made it stronger. Feeling grateful. 🥰

Fiction: We Pretend by Andrea Bishop At your house, there’s commotion and mess and fruit loops. The TV’s always on. Your family’s blended and two sets of rules means no rules at all.

Thanks so much for reading and sharing my story, Hugh, and for promoting short fiction in general. I love your music recommendations, too. Your newsletter is the bomb.

Thrilled have a 500-word story up today at The Cincinnati Review @cincinnatireview.bsky.social . This story started as an idea for an ending that I texted myself and carried around on a phone for years. Finishing was just a matter of finding a beginning: www.cincinnatireview.com/micros/heart/

"The filly was born perfect. Almost impossible to believe –..." This story. 🔥

Elissa Field@elissafield.bsky.social

Excited to see the filly story I wrote in August, Perfect Star, has gone live @frazzledlit.bsky.social today. Thanks to Jennifer & Laura, amazing editors. And thanks Flash Pack and @smokelong.bsky.social workshop peeps who were first to read it! tinyurl.com/3cxejzz8 #fiction #shortstory

Okay, okay, I'm an Ani King fangirl, so you might choose to ignore me, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE this tiny little story! Delish. Wouldn't kill you to read it.

This semester has been one of the best teaching semesters of my life and it's almost entirely because of going 90%+ to pen and paper. My students are fully doing it, without complaint, and it's beautiful. They're actually reading. They're writing weird shit. They're being brave. They like this.

Well, well, isn't this fun news to share. Thanks so much to the whole team @malahatreview.bsky.social and to judge H. Felix Chau Bradley. Feeling lucky (this time!) and grateful.

My writing advice? Find an activity that fully empties your skull, and make it a part of your daily routine. Exercise, art, video games, snowboarding, cooking; anything that leaves NO ROOM for intrusive thoughts or obsession. Brains need oil changes to maintain peak performance. Be stupid once a day

This newsletter is more than pretty good. It’s a smorgasbord of interesting music, stories, ideas. Highly recommend.

Turn and Work (Hugh)@turnandwork.com

I have a newsletter that's pretty good. It's growing and I'm getting better at writing it. It's about books and music and short stories and has links to paywall-free bookish and musicish things from elsewhere. It's free. You can see a sample here too:

I also loved this piece by @fionamckay.bsky.social in @trashcatlit.bsky.social for reasons below. That, and it nails that (unfortunately familiar) high alert feeling. Great ending (I'd be more specific, but spoiler). ❤️

Trash Cat Lit@trashcatlit.bsky.social

Two spotlights today featuring heroes 🦝 We loved @fionamckay.bsky.social's tense, relatable piece, the way it blurs realism and something uncanny, the way it makes us think. Striking use of prompts: Broken Down Car, Soldier, Old Book Read here: trashcatlit.com/the-good-peo...
