👀❗️The HIV epidemic has spread to a third of Russia. A generalized epidemic has been recorded in 30 regions. The virus has gone beyond traditional risk groups: it has been detected in 3% of men aged 30–50. In the Kemerovo, Irkutsk and Sverdlovsk regions, more than 1% of pregnant women have HIV.

According to Haldane's logic, negotiating accession to the EU involves so much uncertainty of consequences that no state would have opted to start European integration in the first place

John Springford@johnspringford.bsky.social

It is likely the costs of uncertainty over re-entry are much smaller than the costs between 2016 and 2021. That's because barriers would be coming down, not going up. And the UK hasn't diverged much, so the potential regulatory change from re-entry would not be large.

Really worth noting that even in Red Wall constituencies which backed Leave, most *Labour* voters back rejoining the EU. Over 90% of Labour considerers back rejoin - opposition to EU membership is mainly coming from non-Labour voters in these seats. Was on Times Radio yesterday making this point.

Both of these numbers are completely insane. I don't think political donations should be banned completely but cap it at like 100k a year. No person or company or whatever, on left or right, should be able to donate $600 or $700 million. It's madness

Although the oil and emissions in Jackdaw are small beer, the reason we are in this mess with the climate is that each marginal extraction and emission is small beer. It's a collective action problem and we are failing and lose our leverage with others if we signal our indifference.

Sian Berry MP@sianberry.bsky.social

This is truly pathetic from Ministers. Labour’s claim to more than 27 new Jackdaw jobs doesn’t hold up. The green economy is >£100bn a year and growing fast. There is no future in fossil fuels. The Government knows this, but chooses profit for Shell over protecting our climate.

This is damning. So much could could have been done at the time, with what was known about COVID, and with what what resources we had. It’s hard not to read callous neglect into these findings. And that intentional neglect was layered with lies - like the “protective ring” - which did not exist.

Kit Yates@kityates.bsky.social

The Inquiry’s overarching judgement is that fragmented responsibility, ignored warnings, poor data and inadequate planning created conditions in which Covid could spread “like wildfire”. Social care’s neglect was longstanding. During the pandemic, its consequences became catastrophic.
