Global Coin Logistics sells dollars to ATM providers across the country. Last year, the DEA and CBP seized more than $1 million from GCL during two different airport seizures without charging anyone with a crime. Now, GCL and @ij.org have filed a federal lawsuit challenging those seizures.

For the fabulously wealthy, paying taxes is pretty much optional. They can borrow against their vast wealth, which is mostly an untaxed capital gain, without paying taxes. When they die, the capital gain goes to zero. And loopholes exist to bypass the estate tax too.

But for those doing the horse race “gap closing!” nonsense, please remember you‘re a big reason why “voter fraud!” claims stick, and know that state GOP have changed counting rules for mail-in votes to explicitly capitalize on your terrible coverage. They’ve used you. And you keep doing it.

It's really damning. The accusations are numerous and well-supported. But I was really struck by the descriptions of Trump's behavior -- the name dropping, strong-arming, and attempts to buy off silence. His gross rivalry with Epstein. It's all so familiar. It's shit he's been doing his entire life.

It is atrocious we have to operate under this constant credible and explicit threat from one political party, the fact we keep calling it a “free and fair election” needs some light revising

Andy Craig@andycraig.bsky.social

Yes. My median scenario is Trump rants, it becomes their talking point, DOJ probably files some more junk suits like these, but then not much else happens. There's real risk of worse, some full push to go insane on Jan 3, but more likely it doesn't get that far, and also that would still fail.

Oh it's the guy who claimed he brought back the dire wolf when he had really just made several small edits to regular gray wolf genes. This is gross but you also have to assume it's going to be extremely underwhelming.

Once mass spam texts were made legal, younger donors vanished, leaving a grassroots fundraising machine that subsists on squeezing vulnerable seniors, some of whom give hundreds of times a day. It’s a horrific model. Consultants get generationally wealthy, and the party hollows out its future.

Jake Grumbach@jakemgrumbach.bsky.social

We found that as of right now 73% of your campaign donation goes back to the consultants and vendors (!!!), four times more than just 20 years ago. Only 13% to ads. Even I was shocked.

Our investigation into allegations of data fabrication at the firm SoCal Strategies, and an alleged association with the admittedly fraudulent firm Wedgewood Polls, has resulted in the pollster wiping itself from the face of the earth. Full story at 50+1: blog.fiftyplusone.news/p/more-polls...

Most amazing part of this is that he likely would have avoided criminal charges if he had not tried to sue the legal owners for hundreds of thousands of dollars in reimbursements for the "improvements" he made on the home

NBC News@nbcnews.com

A Florida man was found dead in his home during a welfare check in July 2022. Weeks later, one of the officers who discovered his body moved into the home and spent years impersonating him, according to investigators.

Bizarre article that tries to frame passing a group of cyclists without hitting them as an impossible moral dilemma. Also, this is a massive red flag

Ryan Fonseca@ryan-fonseca.bsky.social

It's a choice (a bad one) to tell readers this driver "passed too close to cyclists" when there's video evidence showing he drove his car into them, made contact and hurt someone. Fellow journalists: we can explore the nuances of punishment for drivers without obfuscating their dangerous behavior.

Today we launch the first episode of my podcast. I interviewed Whitney Mitchell, whose fiancé and caretaker Garrett Foster was murdered at a BLM protest in 2020. Foster's killer was convicted by a jury and given a 25-year sentence. Then Texas Gov. Greg Abbott pardoned him.

Reminds me of polling from back in the Bush era that found white evangelicals were the religious group most supportive of torture. Most of it is tied to political affiliation, which is also telling in its own way.

Really not a great sign that "shocking stories of congressional bribery" is a now multi-part series but I'm glad someone is doing it

As far as I'm aware there isn't any actual data showing this is becoming more common (happy to be proven wrong!). Purely media-driven panic as far as I can tell

This is a quietly metastasizing moral panic

An unexpected $30k bill - the context for this remark - would fuck me up pretty badly and that’s true of basically everyone I know

Matt Darling@besttrousers.bsky.social

I don't think $30k is a life-changing amount of money. Median American born in 1980 will have $2m in income in their lifetime. It's a 1% increase in earnings.

300,000 tons of diesel is something like 2.25 million barrels, which is considerably less than what the U.S. goes through in a single day (~4.0 million barrels). I assume he chose the bizarre unit of "tons" rather than the more familiar barrels to mask this fact.

Kyle Cheney@kyledcheney.bsky.social

The United States is now importing fuel from Russia, per President Trump.

Reminder: diesel is the same thing as heating oil, which currently costs an average of $6.21 a gallon here in New York. It currently costs $1,500 to fill a standard 250 gallon oil tank, and most homes that use it go through multiple tanks of oil in a winter.
