Murray Balls wife Pam has passed on. Not a lot of people will know who she is, but she was as responsible for Footrot Flats as Murray was. The Scarlet Manuka, Horse, Jess, Wal, Cheeky, Cooch and everyone else formed a core part of my childhood. Slice of heaven indeed.

Finally got my head together to put together another video. Nothing special, but more of "put something up dammit" for my brain #Photography #Drone #WheelchairPhotography

Fortunately the autofocus kicked in properly for the next shot. Here they are mid splashdown #Phototgraphy #WheelchairPhotography #AustralianBirds #Ducks

Auto focus strikes again. This would have been an amazing shot, but at least the reeds in the background are in focus. #Photography #WheelchairPhotography #australianbirds #Focus

Autofocus, the amazing technology that will absolutely focus on the wrong thing when you're running and gunning. #Photography #WheelchairPhotography #Unfocused #AustralianBirds

So we had a little Masked Lapwing drama across the road from us, the babies were stuck in the gutter and the parents couldn't work out how to get them up. Ramps were improvised so all ended well #Photography #BirdPhotography #WheelchairPhotography #AustralianBirds #Plover #MaskedLapwing

Sigh, article talking about the threat posed by algorithmic approach to determining support needs for people on the NDIS. Feature image is a ChatGPT thing.

I keep seeing articles about men worrying they won't pass on their genes, and I don't understand why the media won't tell the plain truth: as a man hoping to sire children, the most important thing to do is artfully assemble a bower and surround it with a collection of startlingly blue objects.

Sigh, I'm pretty sure that if I boycotted all of the local take aways for using AI to make their posters, I'd be stuck with Maccas and KFC (who seem to be fine with selling junk, but using real media to do so).

An excellent thread on the whole "Rogue AI" bollocks

I did a somewhat deep dive into the recent OpenAI and Anthropic "hacks" for an upcoming interview. IMO, the AI companies are better off running with the "rogue AI" story because the real story is actually pretty embarrassing. Like making your Wi-Fi password "wifi" embarrassing. 🧵

These little buggers seem hardwired to frustrate photographers. Did manage to catch this though #BirdPhotography #AustralianBirds #Photography #WheelchairPhotography

So I just realised, that the very first Podcast I ever did is now 21 years old. The Linux Australia Update lasted for about a year, putting out a new episode once a fortnight. I've still got the files, I should really put them up. #Podcasts #LinuxAustralia #TimeFlies

Went on another #WheelchairPhotography roll about the neighbourhood. Spring has definitely sprung in the Southern Hemisphere #Photography #NaturePhotography

Just a gentle reminder. LLMs do not have feelings, they are not sentient, they are literally tools to be used or discarded as we see fit. That is all

Huh, just realised that I'm pretty much the only one posting to #WheelchairPhotography. Are you a photographer who uses a wheelchair? I'd love to see what you shoot #Photography #Disability #Accessibility

I work at a radio station. Before the advent of AI, I listened to most of the new music we received to know if it was any good. Now, whenever I receive a song with AI-generated image, I don't even press play, I know it's gonna be crap. I don't feel even remotely guilty for it.

they put up a dada center just outside of town and life has been unbearable ever since. thing looks like a fucking fish

Here's a question for #Photographers of Bluesky. When you share your photos, do you prefer to upload directly here, or share a link to a third party site like Instagram/Pixelfed/Flickr etc etc. #Photography

Yeah nah, sorry, if you're not putting the words down then you are not the author, at best you're the editor.

Richard Van Noorden@richvn.bsky.social

Dean of Science at Stellenbosch University writes that although AI generates almost all the words for his articles (including this one): "AI did almost all of the writing. I remain the expert and the thought leader behind the piece." www.nature.com/articles/d44...

NDIS next. But you can't review that budget outcome, only get another assessment using the same secret formula. Rinse, lather and repeat.

Thought I might give macro another go with this Pink Fritonnia I'm using the extension tubes with a EF Nifty Fifty. It came out a bit too dark and grainy so I'm going to give it another go, but here are some of the better shots #Photography #WheelchairPhotography #Plants #HousePlants #Macro
