love 2 enjoy a frictionless, stress-free life as I'm locked in an arms race of agentic haggling with every business entity I ever interact with

I really, strongly feel everybody needs to read this—because everybody is going to live in this emergent world, whether or not they believe themselves to be full participants in it. Pretty bleak. Great work @cwarzel.bsky.social and @matteowong.bsky.social

Yikes. Yeah you really shouldn't attach any qualifiers to a robot. Like you wouldn't say a car allegedly hit a pedestrian, you'd only use the word to refer to the alleged driver. "2 men allegedly grope woman using humanoid robot" is the only correct way I can think to phrase that headline.

404 Media@404media.co

Men find yet another way to film and harass women without consent, this time, using a remote controlled robot to push against a "16-year-old girl's buttocks", and this is how the most well-resourced news agencies cover it: Read *our* piece here: www.404media.co/theres-nothi...

Who went through all the major platforms where the Pentagon might stream their barbaric firing squad "livestream" execution to see if it violated their policies? Me. I did it.

NEW: DHS agents tracked people observing ICE arrests, photographed them, ran their plates, pulled personal information, and added them to a Palantir database, according to newly unsealed court filings. w/ @regret.bsky.social

At last count the full price tag is now around $3.5 billion -- very roughly, that's $500 million for the currently underway Phase 1A and planned Phase 1B, plus $1 billion for Phase 1C and $2 billion for Phase 2. Current funding will only cover 1A and 1B, and the freeway cover is all in 1C and 2.

Did the on-train system maps always display the downtown couplets as single lines? I feel like that's a change but without being able to see the old version I'm not sure.

I mean, did they show up late to the interview with an iced coffee that they clearly stopped on the way to get? Because otherwise I'm not sure why I'm supposed to care.

NYT has now independently corroborated all the major allegations against Susan Collins in the ProPublica report, including that investigators were prepared to move against her and then Trump intervened to shut it down. This put Trump in a position of exceptional and extortionate leverage over her.

This is the whole problem with AI right here. We're all hardwired to anthropomorphize rocks yet we invented computers that talk like us without fully thinking like us and somehow expected every user to immediately grasp that distinction and the limits it places on the talking computer's abilities.

Of course people keep failing to check AI output for mistakes! For all of existence until a few years ago, if something talked to you like a person you could safely assume it was thinking like a person, and people don't make those kinds of mistakes. No one was prepared to suddenly lose that crutch.

So is the goal to increase or decrease the number of shots a kid receives? I mean I know nothing matters but you'd think it would have to be one or the other.

Trump: "We're also going to be demanding the drug companies, with respect to a certain situation -- the autism -- that they make their doses in 20% shots. So you have shot 1, shot 2, shot 3, shot 4, shot 5 ... I think you're gonna see a massive reduction in autism"

Tired: drunk driving may kill a lot of people, but it also helps a lot of people get to work on time, so, it;s impossible to say if its bad or not. Wired: Killing people while driving drunk isn't even homicide unless the drunk driving was undertaken for the purpose of killing people.

AI doom or not, something has shifted with AI recently. The guardrails that kept AI sitting in a chatbox are gone, the models are better, there's more compute. AI agents are everywhere. They are annoying as hell. IMO the situation is going to get much worse www.404media.co/theres-a-100...

Really, it's the perfect dad game. 1998-sized world and the same underlying game you've played a dozen times so you can play in short bursts without losing your place or taking years to beat it, but with visuals souped way the hell up so you can tell yourself that yes, the 4K TV was necessary.

The kid in me hates that the new Ocarina of Time is a shot-for-shot remake and not an expanded reimagining, but the dad in me has to admit that if they gave it the full FF7R treatment I'd never have time to finish it.

The problem with the AI-kills-us-all-in-10-years scenario is if we die, the power grid dies. Maybe in some hypothetical future we'll have fleets of servitor robots that the AI could hijack to keep physically shoveling coal into the plants, but for now it's basically our dead man switch.

This is also where I kind of roll my eyes at the idea that AI could "solve" climate change. There's this unstated assumption that a sufficiently powerful intelligence will be able to simply exempt itself from the laws of physics.

My Plex server runs off a single big hard drive from the Before Times. There is no backup. When it dies, everything goes. As they say in Snowpiercer, hard drives are extinct.
