When it first hit(age 35) i bought a relatively powerful car... when it really hit(age 43) i built a gaming pc as if i was 20 :)

What are you doing with your midlife existential crisis? No wrong answers. Just trying to see something, as the kids say.

I am being laid off from the company that didn't give me raise for 3 years where my managers were reporting me as an over-achiever... Most fun part is, my line manager and his manager had no idea about me being laid off :)

Here is a great example of "less is more" and "do not over engineer things". I have 2 Sony bluetooth headphones. Cheap and simple CH720 and top of the line WH1000XM5 CH720 does not have an "ear detector", you can set it to turn off if no device is connected for 15 minutes.

XM5 has an "ear detector", you can set it to turn off if it is not worn for 15 minutes. you can NOT set it to turn off if no device is connected for 15 minutes. What happens is, ear detector does not work reliably. It shuts off in the middle of a meeting if you just put it over you one ear.

so, you just turn off that feature... then what happens is, this 4 times more expensive device just drains its battery if you forget to turn it off after a business day... so you start a day with %0 battery finding yourself charging between meetings instead of listening to music...

This is why i cannot be creative... i am just too good at pancake making...

I may be giving away trade secrets here, but the way I got the textures on the planets back there was using photographs of pancakes I have made. Yes, really.

Recently I might be posting too much about work but they keep on coming. I had a 17 day medical leave on May, 11 of the days are in business days. They decided to divide my salary to 30 and multiply it by 17 to calculate the cut :) So if I had medical leave for whole month I would have paid them...

I don't know how it works in US or Canada but in Portugal, justified absences are cut from salary by working hours :) These are the same great minds that tried to pay me 2 weeks of salary for my 15 days of annual leave :) I love how they have zero idea about being HR or managing finances...

So here is some completely useless rant that might explain why piracy is still a thing. On gaming side, digital stores are region locked in a such stupid way that you really need to be a software person to respect the developers and try to pay to them. Here is an example:

like e-service app of Turkey is not listed in Portugal and Portuguese one is not listed in Turkey. Google being all knowing being, pushed my Turkish account to Portugal. Now i cant update my e-services app, so i cannot use it. Also they have cancelled my YT Premium subscription :)

I hate Apple in general but this might be my turning point. Apple knows that as long as you have a credit card from a country, it means you are a tax resident there and you still have ties there.

Now if want to watch something so bad, I can buy a monthly subscription to one of them, watch full month of content and cancel the service... And for games, yeah, i just buy the game from Steam or Epic or where it is cheaper...

Bonus: if you reside for long time in a country, Google pushes you into that country's store. So, think of a person who lives in 2 countries with 2 Google play store accounts because some apps are market specific,

I watched some on first flight. And when I opened Disney+ in the return flight, it refused to open. It said "no internet connection". Duh, that is the exact reason why I downloaded those series for... If I had pirated those series that would have been a better 5 hour flight.

I still do not resort to piracy, but i know that is an option. I just decided to be more picky about the services I pay for. Already cancelled netflix(too many price increases), disney+(same as netflix) and gamepass(well, they think i should be so poor that i cant travel, so i acted poor)...

This is almost the same with streaming platforms. Here is an example: Netflix, Amazon, HBO, crunchyroll... these are global streaming companies that have branch in Turkey. So almost all the content they have Turkish subtitles. But only in Turkey... yeah... If you want to watch something while abroad

You are either pushed to local dub or sub. No option for even English. You know what does not have this limitation? Piracy... Another example, I just had a 10 day trip... I downloaded some series and movies from Disney+.

What about longer travels? These companies tells you to open an account in the country you are in... Then they do not accept your credit card because it is not from that country... And what if you moved to a country completely? Xbox is better on this, they allow you to transfer your account

But PS? Nope... you need to open a whole new account, add all your friends and kiss goodbye your achievements. Also, you cannot have your PSN name in the new country even if you change your old one to something else... People who pirates games, just downloads and uses them.

If I happen to access my Microsoft/Xbox account out of Turkey, Microsoft store bans me for 90 days from buying anything. So if I am on a business trip with my Series S or Xbox Ally X, see a discount, try to buy it, boom, got banned from buying anything for 3 months...

Let me see, on PS side, it is still not perfect but better. On PS Store, it gives you zero explanation error. It just does not allow you to buy anything while travelling. If there is a sale at the time, too bad, you missed it just because you are not in the country your account is from.

Xbox thinks that if you are a human being from cheap market priced countries, you should be poor and never leave those countries at all. Me for example, I am from Turkey, my credit cards, bank accounts are in Turkey as expected. What is unexpected is, I do travel for work... and hear me out...

4 years ago in the Telltale Games Alumni FB group, Michael Parsons was asking if anyone had advice for helping his 15 year old son Kane achieve his dreams of being a filmmaker. Turned out alright.

as a "work from home" employee, last week my employer made USB storage devices blocked by OS and today made their VPN application mandatory to run and be connected. This productive move made my home network devices(like printer, network storage, speakers) not work with their laptop.

As a result, i changed my desk setup to incorporate my personal laptop as well. So I think it will be very productive to change focus to a completely different device to change a song, or print a document :) of it would be great to see how this internal VPN will block all the customer VPNs :))

i love how @xbox.com just announced Senua for "potential buyers of the studio". Like "here is a studio, here is a project hype, we can make money off of it but we are just good people that do not want that money, we want you to have it"

Latest update on PC: Did the fan curves and now i have a small form factor pc, that has 9700X and 9070xt and it is as silent as a Xbox Series X... can run crimson desert on 4k 60fps with ray tracing :)

after 19 years of using laptops and gaming consoles, i have built a PC just like in the old days... and let me tell you, it was not like the old days in both good and bad ways... good: modern systems are like legos, you dont need to set jumpers, there are signs and markers everywhere, everything is

modular... on the other hand, the case has 11 fans in it if you also count the fans in hardwares(1 in psu, 2 in cpu cooler, 3 in gpu, and 5 case fans)... all those fans and heatsinks and cables... it is a hell to manage in a m-atx case where your gpu is almost as long as your case 😅

Update: seller said they are out of stock for the ones I've ordered and suggested to send 6400mhz CL32 sticks instead(for the same price) and they actually sent it, they are here. Then I have bought a 9700X to go with those, and a Jonsbo Z20 case... it will be a nice little orange accented beast :)

I may have bought myself 2 pieces of 32GB DDR5 6000mhz CL28 for 360 euros... now the question becomes: shall i have 64GB ram or sell the 32 of it to get a lot of money for a X3D CPU :)

Internet used to be this "barrier remover", your gateway into other places. Now, i cannot look at my investment portfolio in Portugal from Turkey, or I cannot browse a shopping site in Turkey from Portugal. Great decission making...

Today a hyped up AI user blocked me for saying that his AI generated watch image has 69 seconds per minute while he was celebrating how AI has passed the watch test by not creating an image that shows 10:10 when requested an image with 5:40 on it... interesting times indeed...
