KPNQwest Münich datacenter in 2001. As the VP of Engineering, I was told it is 'completely full' and sold out, and desperately needs dozens of new 10Gbit/s connections. As is my habit, I traveled onsite and found a Twin Peak'isquie scene - hall after hall.. of empty data center space. Déjà-vu?

Looking at this 2019 article with hindsight is wild. It’s a great reminder that despite Zelenskyy taking a milder stance toward russia than Poroshenko, Putin still launched a full-scale invasion regardless. Appeasement to russia dosent work.

These were all issues with _device_ keys. For the keys at #eMudhra (one level below root key, able to sign keys for any domain) one would expect a much higher level of security.

A few years ago I grabbed all GitHub SSH RSA keys and tested for small factors and ran all-pairs GCD, a la Heninger et al. Not many broke, but the ones that did turned up a surprising number of mistakes: apparent corruption, bad key generation libraries, typos (!). www.usenix.org/system/files...

Two panels at the #Disinfo2026 conference seem to have particularly upset the MAGA people. It would be a shame if people weren’t aware of them.

Spain's renewables build-out has structurally decoupled its electricity prices from gas markets. Gas now sets the price in only 15% of hours, compared to 90% in Italy. Countries that invested early in clean power are far less exposed to fossil fuel price shocks. Those that didn't now pay the price.

I've spent a lot of years studying a lot of collapses, and the truth of the matter is that they're always mundane: mild climatic shifts that reduce crop yields, a dumbass in power who makes some terrible decisions, neglecting things that obviously matter but the will to fix them can't be summoned.

Certain kinds of smart people tend to have a "sexy apocalypse" problem when it comes to thinking about risk. E.g. skynet turning everyone in paperclips, while bad, is also *kind of cool and fun* at the same time. Where the reality is that most actual disasters are both stupid and disappointing.

Sommer 2026: 16.000 Hitzetote 🥵 alleine in 🇩🇪.

I grew up reading piles of science fiction, and I can tell you that the classic author whose futures I *least* wanted to live in was Philip K. Dick. Honestly, I think Dick himself thought so as well!

Paul Rosenberg@paulrosenberg.bsky.social

Philip K. Dick is the most wildly wrong writer for SV billionaires to appeal to. In "The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch": earth made uninhabitable, people fleeing to Mars, warring billionaires peddling reality-creating drugs, one of whom almost certainly is the vector of ancient alien force.
