There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere* Like a legit, no joke, “this will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines As a species we decided, “we will survive” Let’s do that some more

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Don’t think either Tom or Luke are on here but Merrick is great and right up your street if you like Hellboy and B.P.R.D but with the Elephant Man

Rebecca@arbitrarygenius.bsky.social

I just backed Merrick: The Sensational Elephantman - Volume 3 TPB on @kickstarter.com www.kickstarter.com/projects/our... (excited to see this pop up!)

Hamlet: Hail to the Thief (£36 and upwards, Barbican), Space Hamlet (£15, Cockpit Theatre). I chose the latter (mainly because puppets and it sounds fun and it also cited Return to Forbidden Planet - my all time fave!) And that's enough musical Hamlet for me this and next year!

In the spirit of this absolutely absurd and totally corrupt prize, surely the next winner should be Putin

“.. At a FIFA Council meeting in Zurich on Thursday, it was decided that the governing body’s football social responsibility committee will now be tasked with assessing the merits of what was supposed to be an annual prize.” @nytimes.com www.nytimes.com/athletic/769....

Did get up and feed the beasts though. Worried Ruby is without Zoe this weekend (me too but Ruby will feel it more). Cannot wait for Oct to be over work wise.

Randomly made chocolate peanuts in the middle of the day yesterday. They're in the fridge chilling! (I wanted a cinema snack for Hadestown on Weds and forgot to buy any!)

Caved and decided to try new Marvel webtoon thing. Have at least 3 runs I'd like to catch up with so probably worth it for the first year (stupid VAT). But I also make poor decisions at 3am.

[This is good] From this weekend, rail passengers affected by cancelled train services...can travel on another operator’s train departing up to two hours before or after the cancelled service, using either the same route or a reasonable alternative. www.ianvisits.co.uk/articles/can...

Idly browsing the British Museum Bayeux Tapestry gift selection and it's impressively bonkers - and also very good. William the Conqueror as a cat greeting card and Bayeux Tapestry Top Trumps my favourites so far.

New from me on the @instituteforgovernment.org.uk substack "the write-round" Why can't MPs call each other liars? Part of a new series of 'why parliament is weird' a collection of gripes, oddities and head scratchers...would love to hear your takes on the weirdest things in parliament!

instituteforgov.substack.comWhy parliament is weird (no.1): Why can't MPs call each other liars?MPs can be quite rude to each other in the House. So why can’t they call each other liars?
